One last bit you also have to know the basics of automotive ignition and air/fuel systems.

On my brother's Mercedes his MAF went out and we diagnosed it correctly and fixed it cheaply.

On my Volvo I had a misfire and diagnosed as a bad coil pack, fixed it for cheap within less than an hour of noticing it.

Some cars unfortunately are not that solid at that mileage

My Volvo at 225,000 miles is solid.
However we had a Subaru with 113,000 miles that was falling apart.

Condition over milage any day of the week.
