What are some brands/items that would be a smart buy to bring back?
Already have my eye on purple label TNF.
Kapital stuff is like half the price over there, im sure that goes for most of your favourite japanese brands
Ignore the clothes, focus on the food. Where are you going specifically? Family Mart has the best karaage but 7/11 and Lawson have way better prepared meals.
I will add that the Dover Street in Ginza is really f***ing dope though.

I’ve been before, but wanted to see if there were any brands missing. 7/11 holds me down each time, but I’m looking forward to being near a Lawson for their egg sandwich.
Love the DSM store there.
Was thinking about going there later in the year. What's the COVID protocol situation like? Are they fully opened up?

you have to be tripled vaxxed or have a negative pcr test 72 hours before your flight
Arcades still super boomin over there if I’m not mistaken . Super cool café too from what it looks like . Clothes food and women are obvious ofc

there has to be better restaurant recs in japan than convenience stores (yes i know they are not like american convenience stores and quality is little better but still )
esp if you’re trying to focus on the food.

You gotta be vaxxed to go to Japan?!

I was joking but no matter what Japanese convenience stores cannot be understated especially when Americans go and line up for s***ty Ichiran ramen. I'm going for a month soon and you'll catch me at 7/11 before I wait in line for a michelin meal.
Chuka-Soba, Unazen, Tatsunoya, Tonkatsu Hasegawa, Jambo Hanare, Tensuke, Nabezo, Sakuratei
Could literally name places for days if you need more op. But Japanese people hold their food to a different standard so you're just way more likely to have a great meal.
If you haven't checked Nigo's Curry Up also worth checking out just for the novelty alone

or have a negative covid test submitted within 72 hours of your flight arrival
but if you're anti vax going to a country where mask culture is ingrained in daily life especially after covid doesn't even seem worth it

Oh ok. I was planning on heading out there this year. I’m not anti- vax but I didn’t get it. I’d take a risk and mask up during my time there.
I was in Egypt for a few months and did fine. Pretty sure I’ll be good in Asia

tbh i think they might still be doing covid quarantines so worst case if you went and did have it they would put you in a specific covid hotel but i think it's an OD amount of time like 2 weeks
I would pick up as much Kapital as humanly possible
neokyo.com/en might as well do it now

rule of thumb is that train station restaurants are typically really good and relatively affordable. because all the salary men usually eat at these spots after work the restaurants there are way way better than any train station restaurants probably anywhere.
but definitely just like yelp some interesting foods and every region in japan has a specialty food that doesn't hit as hard anywhere else so you should look up the specialty food of where you are staying as well.
