Will be there for a week. No specific plans other than I’m flying in and out of Lisbon. Any recommendations on cool things to do?
Submerge yourself into the cuisine. Portugal is deffo a top 5 country for food, amazing savoury dishes and sweet bakes.
For me, it’s the pasteis de nata at Manteigaria in Lisbon
Alfama and Belem neighborhoods
Go to Sintra (castle and hiking like an hour by train from Lisbon)
Other things depend on what your interests are tbh
Maybe you have enough time to go to Porto for a couple days but I’ve never been

Also have a go at the tourist trams, those are beautiful

i lived there 2 yrs
overuse of cinnamon for my taste
most portuguese food is kinda simple because its a poor country historicaly, lots of just meat on rice and potatoes to make it filling
anyway im not really into it

Its not bad but its tricky to find imo. Sea food is great. Lisbon has some nice secret spots for them but other than that I cant really remember being like oh this is crazy.
Especially when you compare to Spain, Italy & France.
drink espresso for 50 p in the parks. drink beer for 1€ everywhere. Same with wine. art museum outside lisbon is cool. check for out jazz events. also try to find the small, secret restaurants that serve sea food.

I hear you but I disagree completely.
I have lived in Portugal for 10 years and I think there is quite a lot of variation when you compare it to countries like UK and Spain.
Portugal actually has good chunky soups such as sopa da pedra, caldo verde and soupa de legumes - something quite filling when you don't want to eat a proper dish.
There is quite a lot variation in main dishes ranging from seafood to meat. One of my favorite dishes is Bacalhau (codfish) com broa and that hardly has any rice but has quite a lot of veg.
Cinnamon is hardly used in most dishes except desserts. If anything, Indian food overuses cinnamon but I like cinnamon anyway

This is true - seafood is deffo something to try if you are visiting Portugal. Even some meat dishes are interesting too such as jardineira/feijoada and francesinha
