Think it would be good for the team to let the year play out for Poole and Wiggins but I don't think that's likely for Wiggins now since he was the second best player on the team in the playoffs and would hit unrestricted FA after his contract ends while Poole has more to prove and only gets to restricted FA after the end of his current contract

Between the shaky second half of the year and the majority of his career/league perception that Wiggins can only do this on the Warriors I'd think there would be some room to negotiate though but we'll see

Looney was already making five mil/yr on his last contract so he definitely played himself into more but I don't think it's going to be a prohibitive number since he definitely has limitations and knows how beneficial it is to be able to play on the Warriors

Payton gotta come back too and he deserves to get paid but I wonder how much he actually gets. I think 10 mil is the max the team can give him but he's also a completely dependent offensive player and only a situational starter that fell out of the rotation for times during the season

I think Otto is gone because he can probably get MLE type money for more years elsewhere, would be amazing to have him back on the team next year though (team will probably only be able to offer him the tax payer MLE at ~ 6 mil while the full MLE is ~ 11 mil)

Hope they draft a wing and get a 3rd C off the scrap heap. 3rd C is definitely needed but between centers being the most available players and how well the team drafts and the now strong developmental staff, that pick could be great in a few years. Plus there's a need for more cost controlled players with how expensive the rest of the roster is

Need that Moody/whoever they draft/Kuminga/Wiseman lineup going crazy at summer league

    JTA/Beli/Lee back on minimums

Team needs to be moving like the Heat with the two way spots. Feel like Chiozza and Weatherspoon were missed opportunities with how strong the developmental staff is now. At least one of them should be out for someone to handle the ball, maybe both of em tbh

Right but even though Wiggins will be unrestricted we have the most leverage if he’s seeking a max contract as we can offer more. I think they try and negotiate good extensions for them this off-season and if they can’t agree say no hard feelings let’s revisit next year

I’m always pessimistic of players taking hometown deals and feel like Looney going to get paid more than we will offer. There’s gotta be a cap to our spending at some point and he seems to be the first casualty

Payton has to be the focus this off-season

We got 3 picks they should either take players they intend to stash overseas and/or get pieces that help now, like a backup C

I agree with you on the extensions part

What I was saying with Looney wasn't about him taking a hometown discount but more so how his value is perceived around the league and his limitations/being maximized in the Warriors system (even with the improved finishing he's an offensive liability and even though he played ever game this season he's not someone that can usually play high minutes and has already had plenty of injuries)

Payton is for sure a priority

Two of those picks are late late second round and it's hard to get value out of second round picks after the 45 so I'm not really counting on those to turn into anything. Centers are important and the Warriors definitely need a third one but they're the easiest players to find so I really think that first round pick should be used on a wing or a big PG that can grow with the young guys

Surprised we used all the picks. Adding 2 more development pieces to the roster means Moody and Kuminga will have to take on more minutes next year. Gui probably staying overseas

    Currently:

    Steph/Poole/Rollins
    Klay/Quinones(2way)
    Wiggins/Moody
    Draymond/Kuminga
    Wiseman/Baldwin Jr

If Iggy comes back for another season we can’t expect any minutes out of him. Could be setting ourselves up for depth issues

Baldwin a wing so he depth at 3/4 not 5

I think Looney is a lock to get brought back + them picking up a C off the FA scrap heap

Know nearly nothing about the guy but if he really does struggle with lateral agility - even with a healthy ankle - then no way he’s guarding forwards

Seems like he could be a Bjelica type big

Predicting that Looney and GPII will both be back for a combined amount that's 15 mil or under

    Things of note:

    -Looney the #1 priority
-if Looney returns they won’t bring in a 3rd center
-Iggy will be on the roster if he decides to stick around. No coaching role
-Rollins could be a 2way candidate not necessarily a 15 man roster guy
-Wiggs and Poole extension won’t be priority until later in the off-season

Glad to hear Rollins is up for 2way
Never understood why he would just be part of the main 15 because if he's good he can just be converted and they're probably only going 14 deep on the main roster anyways

Loon for sure back so no third center smfh

The timing is still being finalized, but the Warriors’ front office contingent is expected to meet with Looney’s representatives — his agent is Todd Ramasar — in the early portion of free agency, which begins at 3 p.m. (PT) Thursday. There is no bigger or more urgent situation than Looney’s. He is the top priority.

Warriors don’t intend to bid against themselves, particularly considering the tax penalties. They are now flying deep enough into the repeater waters that every extra dollar spent on salary will be multiplied by around seven. So an $8 million salary, for example, would equal somewhere around a $50 million payment. Every dollar they can shave down in negotiations is an exponential financial win.

But Looney and his representatives have no reason to care about a spiking tax bill. None of that penalty money goes to him. Considering his importance, you could make an easy case that he was underpaid ($5.1 million) a season ago and, in the past, has been discarded in the team’s plans. They declined his fourth-year option on his rookie deal and drafted his replacement in November 2020. He continues to play himself back into the picture.

Among the Warriors’ other unrestricted free agents, Payton profiles as the second most important. He provides a level of defensive disruption and ball pressure that is difficult to duplicate on the wing.

The Warriors are considered to be the favorites to retain Payton’s services. It isn’t a secret how much he loves the Warriors’ environment, the Bay Area and his fit as a defensive pest and off-ball slasher in a Curry-fueled environment. But the favorite label — as in the situation regarding Looney — is far from a guarantee, still a few days from the starting bell.

Payton is expected to command interest on the open market. The Mavericks are considered among the most serious suitors. Dallas still has the Jalen Brunson unrestricted free agency to resolve. His decision could have a domino effect on the market. So could Looney’s eventual price tag, as it relates to the Warriors and their willingness to keep shoveling money onto a skyrocketing tax bill.

    Other Warriors FA Notes:
Warriors intend to pursue reunions with Otto Porter Jr and Nemanja Bjelica
No news on Andre Igoudala's plans to play or retire yet
Drafting Ryan Rollins => Less Likely to Pick up a Vet Backup PG
Re-signing Kevon Looney => No plans to add a Vet Backup Big to make room for Wiseman
Quindary Weatherspoon is the favorite for the 2nd two-way spot joining University of Memphis' Undrafted Rookie Lester Quinones
Damion Lee and Juan Toscano-Anderson are the most vulnerable to losing a roster spot
No plans for an immediate extension for Jordan Poole and Andrew Wiggins since they arent UFA

Looney is a must now. I wonder where his market is with Javale and Drummond already signing

If they wouldn’t match 8m for GP2 seems like we might not be doing the full TMLE this year, maybe breaking it in part for 2 guys above the minimum?
