completely clueless as to what clubs to get. Any recommendations on what set to start off with? want an option that will hold up but also not break the bank

I wouldn’t buy clubs instantly . If you’re a Righty go with your friends for a few rounds to get the feel of it and use their clubs. If you’re a lefty you could rent from the shop for not much cause you probably are the only lefty swing within your circle.

Then if you’re into it, make a purchase for a used set via kijiji would be my recommendation.

Also you could go to a driving range as well.
