Bro she looks cute but she's a DEMON I got scars like a veteran
Cats are chaotic but very self sufficient. It’s very unlikely your cat does anything to severely harm itself outside of your watch. As they get older they calm down a lot. I’ve had my boy 2 years now (he’s 4 in age) and he’s still a little butthead sometimes in his actions, but for the most part. He eats his food, he sleeps on his cat tower. He’s relaxed. He gets his random periods of just running around like a nut but compared to when I first got him he’s calmed down a lot (and he was never that bad to begin with) digressing, my point is try not to worry too much which I know is easier said than done. Are you in any therapy right now?
First things first, I worry a lot. I worry for the health and safety of others and I fear loss and death of the ones I love more than myself and I never like to experience such things as I've been through it before. So I know that some of the things I'm complaining of itt could be prevented if I care less but I don't know how to so if you could help with how I can care less I'd appreciate that.
So basically my mood and the general mood in the house was a little dull these past few months so me and my family decided to bring in a lil kitty to brighten the mood.
And it did, she's so beautiful and loveable and a great fun in the house but on the other hand she really makes my anxiety skyrocket sometimes. The cat's 3 months old and so small yet crazy and every few days we got a crazy incident that ruins the day for me because of her actions or the way my family handles her.
One time she tried to run from the house and my lil brother PULLED her by the tail and I had to watch her for 2 days for any symptoms of tail fracture or nerve damage. Another time she bit off a piece of rubber that hangs from the zipper in the pocket of my shorts and I had to watch if she's gonna have any digestion problems. One time I accidentally dropped a med tablet on the ground while she's standing and she immediately ran to eat it before I could pick it up thinking it's a treat and I had to panic and run after her across the house to forcefully take it from her before she swallows it. So sometimes that weighs on my mental especially knowing that cats are such fragile creatures and I'm scared to get attached to her and then suddenly I lose her especially if I lose her because of a mistake of mine or someone else
What should I do? I feel like my worrying is really ruining the pet experience for me and it weighs on my mental when I could be having more fun with her. But every example I gave is a really worrying situation that I'd feel ignorant if I just let it slide. I like to read on what she should and shouldn't eat and what I should and shouldn't do and I am always so strict about these things with my family and it's pissing them off too and I don't want to be the enforcing dude that kills the vibe for them either.
do you over think too about things out of your control as well? im kind of in the same situation as well imo distract yourself talk with ppl music helps do w.e you can to distract yourself, keep calm an be strong minded
I have two kittens, both around 6-7 months old.
They still get into literally everything, jump onto/off things they shouldn’t, eat things they shouldn’t (the girl cat puked up an entire shoelace the other day), and constantly seem like they’re doing things that will “hurt” them, but I promise you your cat will be fine. Sure there are things they shouldn’t eat or do, but indoor life is much simpler and safe than the outdoors and most of these kittens were once living outside where it is much more dangerous.
Got to learn to just let them do their thing. We had a cat growing up that ate anything he could find before we could grab it and he lived to be 16. They’re very intelligent and smart at survival.
Just don’t get any tulips.

OMMMGGGG so sweet
Also, i would highly suggest getting a second cat.
My vet told us how great it is for them to have a companion because they’re basically thrown into a whole new world have to learn to adapt on their own when they are brought into a home. When they’re outside, they live in packs mostly. Having a buddy inside will make them much happier and less stressed. The earlier you do it the better too because they’ll be less territorial. Our male cat HATED the female for a grant total of 3 days, then they became best friends, and are legit inseparable. I think it’d help you out a lot @op

I was considering it but I'm outside most days of the week and my parents are getting older so I don't want it to be a burden on them they are happy with the 1 cat but 2 might be too much for us to handle

This is so cute, my cat has days where it's so calm and days where it's just raging around biting everyone and everything including its own tail
and the therapy question, no I haven't tried it.

Yeah a friend of mine said the same to me about how they have a good survival instinct and wouldn't harm themselves thus why I'm only worried for the time being since she's young but part of me feels she'll be much wiser and easier to care for in a few months
also thanks for the tulips tip and the lily flower tip posted earlier too because I hadn't known that at all before yall posted about it. Not that I buy flowers at all but still better to know.

Only when something else is stressing me, it comes in waves. But yeah I can cope with it.

talk about w.e bothers you with anyone dont keep it in even if it sounds stupid
Getting a pet strictly for mental health reasons is almsot never a good thing
I thought a cat wld make me happier bc i wanted the companionship of a cat
And now that i have the companionship of a cat im happier 😭
Sometimes u just know what u want
I echo what others have said
Kittens should calm down a lot as they age but that might not b for a year or two
But also u can control a cats energy by playing with it a lot at a scheduled time each day
If u watch a couple jackson galaxy vids ull c what i mean
I think u hav a right to b nervous about those things (i would be too) but its j one of those things where theres a chance skmetjing bad will happen and u have to go to the vet where theyll b able to take care of it
But until that happens its kinda pointless to worry about tbh
Its just a chanc
Like i hav super super long hair and theres a chance my cat eats my hair just bc i shed it somewhere and itll tangle in his digestive tract and itll require an operation
But i have soooo many hairs 😭 worrying daily wont prevent it from happening
If it does it does but nothing bad has happened yet
I still pick up thinfs off the ground i dont want my cat eating but worrying when uve already done tje most u can is not beneficial for anyone
And on the aspirin thing
U can probably desensitize ur cat to trying to eat anything thats dropped by dropping random stuff like idk pine nuts
Which are harmless but not yummy at all
At most shell probably sniff it and walk away
Then u’ll have peace of mind that she wont eat just anything and will check first—cats tend to know what they can or cant eat
Quick lil update I’m getting a lot more comfortable with the cat and she is getting more used to us too on the other hand so it feels much better. We all starting to develop that bond with her and she isn’t as frisky as she was when she was brought in. The Frenzy still happens tho but we pay it no mind
