yep 808s is a dead end in terms of influence. amazing album but that's BECAUSE it sounds so unique. look at the 80s pop influence and african msic influence all over that album, completely absent in any hip hop artists "inspired by 808s". except for a few drake songs i guess

also rappers started using autotune because of lil wayne and t-pain and did it in their style, not kanye's

and drake got being emotional from houston (zro trae etc.) and added his own feminine spin on it, cudi got it from having mental illness since birth, that's how we got emo rap. nothing to do with kanye.

none of this is to hate on 808s which is my 2nd favourite kanye album, just stating facts. if anything it makes 808s better that nobody could duplicate it

Exactly I don’t hear 808s Kanye in drakes early music I hear lolllipop, can’t believe it, Single ,

    Mr Carter

you could argue taylor may influence change

but making a list on albums that "changed music history", anything less than a decade old is void automatically. they knew that tho, the taylor album is in there so people will talk about the list

    Agreed.

GQ need to just stick to slapping whatever man twitter thinks attractive for the month on their magazines and leave the music stuff alone

“But what’s truly mould-breaking is that this was the first of a series of albums which she rerecorded to get out of a contract dispute with an old record label. Commercial exploitation of artists blights the history of pop music, but here, Swift points to a way of leveraging celebrity to get your own back on the suits.”

  • The velvet underground and Ye picks aren’t the best imo

Freak Out would be a better pick than velvet. And there’s probably a better pick than 808s, like Tha Carter III
