How fast can one learn to use Adobe products? Some background, I went to art school with a minor in art history but focused almost entirely on physical media (oil, acrylic, charcoal mainly). I have barely some experience with photoshop from a class I took in college but it's been years. I am decently proficient with paint.net but don't really use it for more than basic image editing and the occasional s***ty meme. Would some of my physical media be acceptable in a graphic design portfolio? I'm thinking a piece or two tops. Found a good job application for a design gig in a museum and I have art historical knowledge so I think it'd be a good fit, but I click on photoshop to whip something up and I'm at a loss.

my guess is you’ll need to know indesign and illustrator more so than photoshop. It took me about 1-2 yrs of design school before I felt comfortable enough in those 3 programs to work professionally. You could probably do it a lot quicker.

For graphic design work I would start in illustrator, focus on vector art and type setting. Then indesign to learn page layout, and setting up files for print. imo photoshop is best for photo editing or digital painting.

All 3 programs use layers, so that would also be a good first thing to get used to.

drawn over the left side with a black solid color, you can see the line separating the solid color fill and the darkened head

the right side looks like a levels adjustment layer
