My problem with this writing is that they're trying so hard to make you hate Hal...but if you actually pay attention, he's the only competent person on the show

This show is amazing. I figured it was gonna be good even with the dumb backlash the trailer got but I never expected it to be this good.

I took it more as the guardians and john expressing the desire to replace him because he's old, tired, rugged and not fit for the job compared to John who's been training for it his whole life but Hal's actually still a very good fit and overall experienced in a way John isn't.

Even John parents were saying hal never deserved the ring and it's pretty clear he did

If it was just the Guardians and John doing that, cool. But the OOC A-hole stuff, the racial stuff, and then the attitude towards him from most of the characters...they've definitely tried to make you look at Hal as someone to root against. He even said he didn't really earn the ring in this episode

They most definitely have been. I'd be a jerk too if everyone in the town, including my trainee, was getting in the way of me doing my job
