You use a straw man argument while not even saying what you thought of the clip then say “ I’m not doing this with you “

How will I cope with not having a human being using a straw man argument ? How

The whole shows view of blackness is very neoliberal I felt it even before seeing that quote . Very Obama era view of blackness . Without questioning the system it’s more “ how can we rise in the system “ . It’s a seeking of power so black peoole can have it too . It’s lecturing an whole alien about race

Aliens that their main power is blowing up .

Kamala is still a neoliberal who had/ has some of the same issues as Biden just black

I agree with your assessment in some ways but i think the clip in question doesn't really speak to that. they are simply using that situation as an influence to the relationship between Hal, someone who doesn't want to to give up the mantle, and John, someone is who feels he is ready to take it on.

I’m literally on page 1 of this thread 7 years ago . I wanted to love the show more . Love Lindelof . Think watchmen presentation of blackness was infinitely better . As was leftovers and lost . I’ve been left questioning what happened many times throughout the season . I’ve looked at the additional writers each episode and I don’t personally like their depiction of blackness . To me it’s new blacks with a Neo liberal mind set and I’ve said that since early on in the season

Do they say Kamala is a neoliberal in the show ? No . But she is to me . They say waiting on older people in power to hand the torch off that is something where if you do it where John Stewart is questioning authority and seeking to change systems inspired by how he can help the disenfranchised as we saw in jL Jlu to some degree cool . The show has focused on his buddy cop relationship with a white man who has left him in a car crash multiple times solving his murder with an hologram version of him . Obedient to the white powers to be at times to a fault . Trusting a random women being seduced by her multiple times . Abused by his parents with the goal of him ascending to power . In a story with exploding aliens cough Muslims end coughs and borderline racist depictions of black stereotypes

They say they used it to inform their writing process right there in the clip . I felt he was too obedient to authority and a Boy Scout for me throughout the entire run of the show

I never said they speak on it in the clip . I’m speaking on it because it’s my issue with it which is the question you asked me

My issue is using it to inform their writing

That’s fine to have that issue.

I don’t think there is an issue with the writers being informed by current events. They also said that this is something that happens in any industry when it comes with the passing of the guard.

That, in itself, is not really speaking to anything politically.

Like I said though, I agree with your assessment of the show’s neoliberal politics.

I love the beginning part of passing of the old guard dealt with both in gaming industry and blue collar work . I just don’t find how it’s been approached for the entirety of the show to be a captivating watch for me . I think comparing themselves to true detective set them up some. Question if knowing Hal was dead so early then retracing the how was worth it . Hal been in hologram form or in each episode and most of John’s lines and character is so engrossed in Hal and getting Hal’s ring.

It informing them doesn’t shock me again I mentioned Obama early on you can see it informed them early on in the show . Do I think it affects my enjoyment of the show or writing ? Yes again all of which I said before this quote came out . Said I like watchmen better and before seeing additional writers or thinking Lindelof played a larger part in this thought he fell off .

I’m glad that are young black and given power to write but can’t help but feel Lindelof a white man could write better black stories without them involved

They announced Damon Lindelof as one of the first writers and let him write 0 episodes of this show alone . I’m not shocked he not returning for season 2
