Never knew what to make of people talking about Hal at end of Ep 1 and its not even what most were fearing lol

“We came into this with the sort of attitude that this was a mystery with a beginning, middle, and end. We had a story to tell about characters that we really cared about, and we would want the audience to kind of get to know them over the course of the first season and really invest in them, and then that story ended. If it’s successful and people love it, there’s a lot of runway to launch into future seasons. But I think Chris Mundy has already started a new writers’ room, figuring out what new stories could be for ‘Lanterns.’”

who killed abin sur? How did Hal die and who took his ring ? What is going on in the town with the aliens? Why did they tell Hal there can only be one earth lantern when we know this isn't true ?

I always assumed people said he would die in 2016\. That's not the case. Him dying in 2026 is a nothing in comparison imo. Like i would never kill Hal for starters but present day is totally sensible if that's how the hand off occurs

He even argued with his co-creator Tom King, the Eisner Award-winning comic writer behind the iconic Woman of Tomorrow storyline that inspired the DCU’s Supergirl, about whether it was right to kill Hal Jordan. As we wrap up our conversation, Lindelof makes a joke about possible fan backlash and King’s closing comments: “Yeah, let’s blame James and Peter. If you like it, it was our idea. But if you don’t like it, it was James and Peter’s idea.” King, ever the generous creative partner, covers Lindelof’s tracks: “We didn’t say their last names. That could be any James and Peter.” Perhaps a sign of how well they work together, Lindelof joins in: “Yeah, any James and Peter.”

But Is it the best episode of true detective since season 1?

Chris Mundy: We needed whatever that mystery was to be as meaningful as possible and as emotional as possible for John, for Hal in a way, but also for the audience. So it felt like [the right thing to do] in a show about someone trying to hold onto this thing, losing it, and then where does he end up and why? And can we do the math to get to that point? How do we use that? Because obviously you don't take something like that lightly. It's a huge thing. So is it being done to illuminate not just John, but also illuminate Hal in the best way possible? So the fact that they had confidence or, really, faith in us at least to do it and treat it with the level of care that we hopefully gave it, we felt really lucky. But yeah, it was kind of big and scary just because it's a choice.
