This a huge W for hip hop and black culture in general
too much inorganic industry pop has been drowning out rap of its well deserved praise for a minute now, glad people finally shutting that s*** off now
lol try to beat Adele or Swift and then celebrate.
I'm not a sales guy but if you'd have told me a year ago that The Weeknd would be beaten to #1 by Gunna and Disney I wouldn't believe you

It's definitely no secret now that this album just didn't connect with the masses. It leaned into the 80s sound too much, plus the album concept was pretty out there for a pop record.
I've said it before, but this album has no Blinding Lights, which even as a very 80s sound record, is probably more contemporary sounding than anything on Dawn (besides Less Than Zero). The songs on this one are definitely pop, and I bet he thought Sacrifice and TMB would be big hits. But I think it should be clear now that those disco, thriller type tracks are NOT connecting with casual audiences.
He said in an interview that he thought other big pop stars were "cosplaying" the 80s sound, and I while I personally do believe that Abel does do it better than others - I think the overall casual market was turned off by how much intensely he went with it.
I and many other loved the record, but if Abel expected to have a big pop album with this one, this is an L for him. Besides Less Than Zero (which I do believe will eventually become a hit if he stops failing the promotional run for this album), I don't think any of these songs will become hits.
what we need to point out is gunna is doing roddy ricch first week numbers in his second week +30k more

Looking at numbers this album doing far better outside of America, they love 80s pop overseas
He be getting euros and pounds

roddy really dropped the ball because he was setup to have similar success if not better and he blew it by waiting two years to drop that disappointment
Damn
Almost 100k 2nd week is absolutely nuts
