I don't even see the risk Abel took on Dawn FM. All he did was make a more sonically-concise project that has his best transitions from song to song and even at that, many of the songs have similar beats because of that. How that counts as risk is beyond me but whatever.
Its literally just more rehashed 80s pop. The whole “artistic” shtick is just copium for flopping

I think it’s past time to move on from the retro stuff and try and push modern sounds forward
Stuff like Escape from LA, After Hours, Hardest to Love show some promise
I think dance music is a good direction for pop to go in but he should be working w weird producers like Burial, OPN, Jamie xx, etc to create a new sound rather than falling back on 80s retro, synths and max Martin esque pop writing
