haha if i knew, i would make it happen every time. but i think the best few things ive done have been:
1) consistency: ive been dropping consistently since 2018 and the frequency + consistent quality has helped a lot. i went from having 1 song get editorialed for like a week in 2018, to then getting like 3 editorials out of 11 songs released in 2019, then to getting like 8 editorials out of 10 releases in 2020. it's been a consistent build
2) distribution: i used a few different "industry" distribution services like stem and level instead of using distrokid, it's unclear exactly how much it helps but it doesnt hurt
3) uploading my songs 3+ weeks in advance and pitching them thru spotify for artists
4) submitting to good tastemaker blogs like fashionably early, before the data, early rising, lyrical lemonade, etc. and trying to build relationships w those writers so that i can get the writeups consistently. spotify editors tend to look at those
