Just finished 1. Heroic difficulty with the classic graphics.

Some mixed feelings towards the end but I enjoyed it. Good old school campaign. Starts off strong, especially the first few sandboxy levels where they let u toy around with vehicles and whatnot. Second half of the game becomes too repetitive with the retreading of levels, some of which weren't that great even the first time. The Library level where you fight the flood is genuinely awful. The only retread I liked was the final level on the intro ship, that was pretty cool.

Favorite parts of the game were those where im wielding the shotgun or driving the ghost. The atmosphere and the soundtrack are both amazing.
    I'd give it like a 7/10, maaaaybe 7.5

pretty fair assessment, the repeated level structures are a common complaint for the first game especially the library lmao

still one of my fav games and campaigns ever

when you get around to playing 2, 3, and reach

This is dirt cheap on Steam. So what's the fascination with these titles? The multiplayer scene? The campaign? I've always been intrigued but never pulled the trigger. Like I'm aware of Halo 2 and Halo 3 ODST

highly influential series with some of the best storytelling / mythos, memorable lines, characters, and trilogy for a video game and sci-fi ever

multiplayer is insanely goated too however you might have a hard time as a new player cos its dead nothing but ppl that played since those games dropped lmao

wait till you use the battle rifle in halo 2

played first couple of levels of 2 yesterday and the AR is so gooood. didn't like it that much in 1, felt very inaccurate with the big spread, in comparison this one is so precise, reminds me of the famas from cs 1.6

also i didnt know you get to play with a different character, voiced by the goat Keith David

Finished Halo 2, heroic. Honestly it might be one of the best fps campaigns i've played

Found it to be pretty much an upgrade on every front compared to Combat Evolved. Gunplay feels so precise and crisp. Akimbo plasma rifles I f*** with the change of removing the health bar and leaving you with shield only, in CE there were a lot of instances where you reach a checkpoint with 1 hp in the tank, making some combat arenas tedious trial & error bouts.

Also appreciate that you visit lots of different locations, there's some repetition towards the latter half of the game again, but its not that rough and its balanced with the varied enemy compositions in the battle arenas. Love that feeling of being a fly on the wall when you walk in a room and theres a group of brutes fighting against elites and out of nowhere the flood comes in and f***s s*** up. Game feels slightly more linear compared to CE, not as much sandboxy levels, but we get more spectacle and crazier set pieces.

Story was exceptional. There's a bit more emphasis on cinematics, but they dont go overboard and whats there is very good and to the point. Im not a huge nerd for video game lore but the story almost makes me go and read up on a fan wiki, probably some of the best worldbuilding in a game. Going in, I did not know there's a second playable character. The Arbiter very likely stole the show for me. He's so cool. Those initial Arbiter levels where you infiltrate the Heretic's base are probably my fave in the game. Makes me wonder what the reception was back in the day. Two adversaries forced to combine forces to defeat a larger threat, goated trope. Music was absolute gas as expected.

The only real negatives are on the technical side where quite a few checkpoint triggers are bugged, also sometimes your grenades dont explode, small stuff like that. Also those flying buglike enemies are annoying as f***.

Yeah as I said, loved it. Will be starting 3 in a few days.

the arbiter take is so real cos it used to be considered the worst part of the game and i never understood why (aside from people wanting to just play chief lol)

would highly recommend to check out any of the behind the scenes footage / interviews for each games especially halo 2 when you get a chance

its one of the most informative breakdowns ive ever seen for a video game and it really shows you all the passion and hurdles they had to face when creating the series

ur gonna love halo 3, perfect cap off to a trilogy
