I think the general reputation of award shows is waning due to them more consistently being exposed as more about industry politics than anything else, it's no fun seeing who's gonna win when it's obvious from the get go. If you look at the AOTY noms this year it's clear the committee themselves are very very out of touch as well.

Star power is certainly waning as well though that has a lot do with massive star power in general not really being something that exists as much nowadays as music consumption has become less monolithic as streaming has risen. The grammys committee seem really out of touch when it comes to the current stars of hip-hop.
