Hans Zimmer is the most overrated composer of all time!
There, i said it. Im not saying that he's bad, because he is really f***ing good and made bangers. But people really pretend like he's the goat??? How can one even look forward to his scores lmao. Do you even remember the score of Dunkirk?? Also, most of his s*** just isn't beautiful, but that's mostly just my opinion. But please, do not compare this man to Morircone, Hermann, Williams, Steiner etc.
Hans Zimmer looks like his favourite movies are Forrest Gump and Shawshank Redemption
I do prefer some others over him (alexandre desplat, michael giacchino, jonny greenwood if he counts, Danny elfman, max ritcher)
And he IS overrated I think but his place and stature in the modern film composers speaks for itself tbh.
90s he had LION KING, Prince of Egypt. People will never forget music from those
2000s he had the damn Pirates of the Carribean!! (Everyone knows that theme and it’s still talked about) and the Batman stuff. Those two notes in the Batman themes he did that are huge and blaring is definitely something people remember.
Inception bommmmm sound is iconic
Interstellar has some musical passages that you still hear in viral videos and that many many many people still love
And recently I think the tribal vocalisations and chants from the Dune soundtrack are future classics
Of the past 30/40 years he’s definitely the big, dominant force and I think other composers who are his contemporaries would say the same

Finally someone who makes some good points
Taking shots at Dunkirk when you know that movie relied more on remarkable sound design than the score

Is the sound superb in that film?
Got that 4K copy with the DTS HD MA soundtrack and I'm due to watch it soon
wish it was Atmos though, surely something like that would be sensational with an object based sound format with height channels etc
