Hey guys
Election’s coming up. Seven days from now, one of the two candidates WILL be the next President. Here’s a list of proposals and campaign pledges from the Dem nominees Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz

The next president will reshape tax policy after Trump's 2017 tax law expires in 2025.
No tax increase for individuals making under $400,000 per year
Raise the top marginal tax rate for the highest income brackets to 39.6%
Raise the tax rate on long-term capital gains to 28% for individuals making at least $1,000,000/year
Raise corporate tax rate from 21% to 28%
Raise tax on corporate stock buybacks
Restore the 2021 Child Tax Credit, expand to $6,000 for families with newborns
Restore the 2021 Earned Income Tax Credit
Last month the Harris team released an 82-page PDF outlining their full economic agenda 👉 kamalaharris.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Policy_Book_Economic-Opportunity.pdf
Harris has not elaborated on what she plans to accomplish on her first day in office beyond “focusing on the middle class”. This would probably involve signing some executive orders kickstarting what her team is calling “the opportunity economy”.
Enact a national price-gouging ban
Raise minimum wage to $15
Require tipped workers to be paid minimum wage
Eliminate tax on tips
Sign the Protecting the Right to Organize or PRO Act, and the Public Service Freedom to Negotiate Act
Sign laws limiting businesses from “unnecessarily” using criminal arrest histories, convictions, and credit scores in employment decisions
Sign “ban the box” laws, referring to the check-box often included on job applications that ask whether applicants have been arrested or convicted of a felony
End four-year college degree requirements for federal jobs where appropriate
Double the amount of apprenticeships in the US
Increase the startup expense tax deduction for new businesses from $5,000 to $50,000
In early October, Harris announced a plan to give Black men more economic opportunities and other chances to thrive as she works to energize a key voting bloc that has Democrats concerned about a lack of enthusiasm.
Provide 1 million loans to Black entrepreneurs, forgivable up to $20,000
Offer federal incentives to encourage more Black men to train to be teachers, citing statistics that Black males made up only a bit more than 1% of the nation’s public school teaching ranks in 2020-21
Protect investments in cryptocurrency assets, citing that 20% of Black men own crypto
The state of housing in the U.S. remains challenging for many potential buyers. High mortgage rates and elevated home prices have made it difficult for the average person to enter the market. Inventory is limited, driving competition and prices even higher. While some areas may offer more affordable options, overall, rising costs combined with inflation have created significant barriers to homeownership for many families. Over 22 million renter households—almost half of all renters—are cost-burdened, spending over 30% of their income on rent. The number of severely cost-burdened households, spending 50% or more, has grown by 1.5 million since 2019, now exceeding 12 million.
$10,000 tax credit, and up to $25,000 in down-payment support for first-time homebuyers
Build 3 million new housing units, incentivized by a tax benefit for builders who build starter homes for first-time buyers
Tax credit for housing developers who build affordable rental units
Prevent landlords from using algorithmic tools to set rent
Harris promises to “take on corporate landlords and cap unfair rent increases”. It is not known whether she has adopted President Biden’s 2024 campaign proposal of requiring landlords to cap rent increases at 5% per year.
Harris will most likely build on Biden’s climate agenda, which targets a 50-52% reduction from 2005 levels in economy-wide net greenhouse gas pollution by 2030. Also supports the Paris Climate Accord, which targets net zero emissions economy-wide by no later than 2050.
“The next president and Congress will have the power to put their mark on major health care programs like Medicare and Medicaid that combined cover nearly 150 million Americans. They’ll be able to direct resources for how the United States fights the d*** overdose crisis and how the country prepares for the next pandemic.
“A recent survey found that two-thirds of Americans say health care should be receiving more attention in the presidential campaign, and there are several crucial health policy choices the next president is likely to face in their first year.” — NPR
Make the Affordable Care Act’s enhanced subsidies, which covers up to half of consumer’s monthly health insurance premiums, permanent before they expire at end of 2025
Extend the $35 cap on insulin and $2,000 cap on out-of-pocket spending to all Americans
Establish paid family and medical leave
Create a national initiative to better fund efforts to detect, research and combat sickle cell disease, diabetes, prostate cancer, mental health challenges and other health issues that disproportionately affect Black men
Harris has publicly supported ending the filibuster in Congress if necessary to restore Roe v. Wade 👉 “I think we should eliminate the filibuster for Roe and get us to the point where 51 votes would be what we need to actually put back in law the protections for reproductive freedom and for the ability of every person and every woman to make decisions about their own body and not have their government tell them what to do.”
Ban assault weapons, high-capacity magazines and bump stocks
Universal background checks for gun purchases, as well as “red-flag laws” that allow courts to temporarily ban people from possessing firearms if they pose a danger to themselves or others
The next president could have the power to dramatically reshape the Supreme Court with one or more appointments. Shortly after ending his re-election campaign, President Biden endorsed major Supreme Court reform including term limits for justices. Harris has voiced support for reforming the Court but has not detailed any specific policies 👉 “I do believe that there should be some kind of reform of the court, and we can study what that actually looks like.”
