The film sets and style are so embedded into culture globally (theme park $$) that they're pretty much locked into the same thing. Would be cool to shift the time period or modernize wizarding world but they're not here to be creative lol.

Another weird element of this all that you don't ever really get with 2nd adaptations.

I think it looks great. They are definitely toning down the whimsical vibe of the movies and leaning more into a more dark/grounded version of the story straight from the jump. I think this is a smart move as long as they don't overdo it...

There's also more of a gothic feel in the set designs which helps it stand out from the movies.

I also hate this dumb take of "they are only doing it for $$$" — like obviously! That doesn't mean the show can't be good. If it was all about the money, they wouldn't have hired veteran showrunners who worked on prestige tv like Succession.
