For what it’s worth, the idea one any one album coming out and being so much better than everything else for years is dumb af

That sort of obsession over one object isn’t healthy imo, for the artist or fan. Of course, you can have a strong personal relationship to anything, but I doubt anyone can name something that’ll make you go “ok yeah that’s also Blonde-tier”

This thread actually put me on a lot of music. For example, I’d never really given Kelela a chance and now she’s legit one of my favourite artists. I’m not closed off to loving things. I want to find music that people are really PASSIONATE about the same way I’m passionate about blonde

music must be dreadful if you think this is the best thing to come out in the past 6 years

  • Dec 11, 2022

While I wouldn’t say I’ve heard a better album than Blonde since, these are projects I’ve really loved since then

    Madeon - Good Faith
    Porter Robinson - Nurture
Kevin Penkin - Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul OST
Lil Ugly Mane - Volcanic Bird Enemy
Big Thief - Dragon New Warm Mountain
Denzel Curry - Melt My Eyez
Sudan Archives - Natural Brown Prom Queen

I do think part of the reason for the belief of nothing as good as Blonde dropping since is because r&b music also has been in the dumps since then as well. This new SZA album though is really good but it does feel like one of the few r&b albums I’ve heard since Blonde in the genre worthy of coming back to.

I will not waste my time listing all the amazing albums that came out 1977-81 or so

I made this thread more as a way to get recommendations of albums that people have that sort of connection with. I’m not sure what is unhealthy with my love for the album. I’m telling you I haven’t found anything that has moved me and stuck with me in the same way. I didn’t choose that. I’m still listening to a lot of music and loving a lot of s***, but I haven’t found anything I love quite as much. That’s just how I feel idk how it’s “dumb af”.

It’s not you in particular, I’ve just seen the same thread made for years. All about this same album.

I can’t say if you will find another album to love as much, but to the question, “Has anything as good as Blonde dropped since?” I say an emphatic YES 10 times over. It’s been 6 years

Good is subjective. If I haven’t found an album that I love as much than there is no album that is as good to me. There are more harmonically complex albums or albums with more impressive production on a technical level but I don’t love them as much so they’re not as good to me

Dumb logic. Different music can speak to different people. Trying to pretend Some Rap Songs is going to reach as many people and have the same impact as Blonde is grossly undermining what Frank actually did on that album and the impact it had for everyone who heard it

You may like certain albums more than Thriller, that doesn’t mean you’re gonna sit here and act like Thriller isn’t one of the most special projects ever made due to how many people actually love that record

  • Dec 11, 2022

Tbh for me as a personal taste I’d put Yves Tumor’s Heaven to a Tortured Mind, completely different albums though. I’d say it’s generally pretty close, just needed a bit more fleshing out on some of the ideas.

Nick Hakim’s Green Twins and WILL THIS MAKE ME GOOD are also close, but the latter album isn’t as close though I love it still.

Nai Palm is someone who’s pen is as strong as Frank’s for me, just different approach to lyricism.

Thank u yes! She has such deep, wordy lyricism. She’s been thru allot to do it just adds to the fire

you are totally misreading my perspectives. Nothing I've said is detrimental to Blonde or any individual releases. What I am discussing is the perspective of fixation that turns the receptive of individual albums into a clearing-field maneuver where seemingly nothing else of note has been produced.

Incredibly poetic. To me King Krule also has a pretty strong pen usually.

definitely been a ton of amazing albums and masterpieces that have dropped since Blonde but if you're talking "mainstream pop sensitive albums" specifically instead of "albums in general" then to some degree yeah, blonde was a pretty unique moment. all the context going into the drop, the whole rollout, etc., that first listen was crazy
