I did this video talking about how we all tend to copy the things we see and consume, whether we realize it or not. It's a natural part of human nature and runs counter to the people who seem to think they are never influenced by anything

but what I'm more curious about is - has a song ever fundamentally changed your mind on a topic? Like, you felt one way, or maybe neutral, on an issue until an artist actually convinced you to see it differently

could be something more concrete or political, for example like, if J. Cole's "BRACKETS" made you reconsider how you felt about taxes (idk why that was the first example that came to mind )

or maybe something a bit more spiritual, like KA shifting how you feel about and consider love

I honestly think rap helped put me OFF of more stuff than it put me ON. Strictly by exposure therapy and having grown up with it. It always resonated emotionally and gave me an outlet when I needed it to, f*** Post Malone btw, but watching rappers I liked show their true colors as people always made me reevaluate their music and what they actually stood for. That's a complex relationship that you can figure out your own beliefs with. And being able to appreciate art for its characteristics rather than its character is very important to me. Especially in this climate of morality police criticism which is tedious and uninteresting.

And as a creative outlet, mimicry is how you learn. You find your own voice by familiarizing yourself with the work of others and copying that and subverting that and mixing it with other stuff. Same idea.

Art makes us think, so music definitely has.
