This old geezer sleepin
Back in my day rap had a greater touch on the pulse of current affairs. Coronavirus the biggest thing rn and nothing from anyone.
Need Cole to drop something for us. He the only real one left in this game
wayne is literally donating money, f*** a rap song
Rap is trash right now. Don't know how yall dont see it. Nobody talks about any substance in the mainstream except Kendrick and sometimes Cole. Both of them are MIA. While everybody else just raps about d****, b****es, being rich or some cringe dance. No Public Enemy, NWA, Tupac, Nas, Kanye level artist out there really talking about things that matter
A black empowerment or positivity movement would be goat, other than that I ain't wanna hear anything else "of substance" from these rappers, they dumb as s***.
sit ur ass at home and if you have to got outside wear a mask and gloves
the f*** are they supposed to make a song about
Good music abt issues teaches a lesson bro.
Brenda got a baby outlines a vicious cycle, and by knowing abt it u can learn how 2 break it.
How does that translate to corona? Whatchu want, a song abt how u gotta wash ur hands? A song abt some mf who got his grandma sick bc he didn’t take precautions? Nobody needs that s*** b
Such a s*** take. Lol. Rappers back then were also homophobic and selling crack allegedly.
No one ever talks about what they are going through. They only talk about what they went through, past tense
Bc social media has warped us to only share positive things. And even when something bad happens, we only share it whenever we've overcome it and everything is positive now, or if sharing the bad news can hopefully bring something positive from the awareness (like sharing missing people reports)
NO ONE just posts or shares depressing ass s*** that is also supposed to make you depressed. Which is what talking about Corona rn would be like. Unless you memeify it, but I doubt Rapaport would consider meme songs about Corona to be "real songs"
And hip hop is different now than what it used to be back then. Back then, there used to be a component of telling/sharing news through hip hop. Now, we have social media and everyone knows everything already. If you put a Corona bar in a song, even if it were your own original thought, it comes off as corny not only bc everyone else is already having those same thoughts, but bc everyone is having those same thoughts AND is already hearing those thoughts from everyone else as well. What bars, lines, songs, or view points about Corona can hip hop give that I haven't already seen a meme about, seen a tik tok about, or seen someone I know write a long post about already? So basically, an artist making a song about it, it feels like I already heard everything they have to say from someone else already. Back in the day, you couldn't hear and see what everyone else's thoughts and feelings were, and so, when you heard rappers on the radio saying s*** that you already thought of; it didn't feel corny bc you didn't have immediate access to know how everyone else felt about it and was bombarded with everyone else's thoughts and feelings on the situation BEFORE even hearing the song. Nowadays, the song is just another piece of content in a sea of millions that has no unique qualities about it
We don't need hip hop to speak about Corona directly, we only need hip hop to continue making good music. But despite that, hip hop has responded to Corona Virus, in their own ways. Look at Tory Lanez Quarantine radio. That's not a song but it spawned directly bc of Corona. Is Toosie Slide not a song about Corona? Or due to Corona, or at the very least, not being enjoyed moreso than usual bc of Corona? A lot of people made dance videos to that song who otherwise would've never made those videos if not for the pandemic/stay at home mandates. And them making that video, put a smile on their face during a time where there isn't much to smile about.
