Here in the UK, the government (fuck the tories) introduced a furlough system, where the government covers 80% of your paycheck if you cannot go to work due to infection, lockdown etc.

This system has saved a huge amount of jobs in the hospitality and nightlife sector. It still faces huge problems from lack of demand, but it is a valuable lifeline.

My question is, have any state governments done anything similar? Or are you totally dependent on 2 tiny stimulus cheques from Congress.

Let me explain why so many Americans are fine w this:

1. They think that unemployment was equivalent to other countries pandemic relief

2. Americans believe the reason people are hurting is that Democrats shut down the economy and made everyone quarantine which hurt the economy

They think money = job. if you want money get a job. they want to end quarantine

A lot of people took advantage of unemployment or the stock market this year and made more money than they ever have in their entire lives

This is stupid logic

There were unemployment benefits on top of stimulus, also. A lot of people claiming unemployment were making more than they were prior to the pandemic.
