According to some accounts, when a guest is over at a person's house around dinnertime, the host will go eat dinner while the guest is left to entertain themselves. So, not only are guests left alone in someone else's house, they don't even get to eat.
Usually, the guest will be put into a separate room. With kids, they are given access to toys/video games while the host family eats secretly or openly without them.

jeez, thats not happening here, here the most extreme case is at least them offering you something, but being ok if you dont accept any food. Maybe in rural places they are more friendly i guess? i know here we even get homegrown food from some people
people in general here are more extroverted, i know Italians for sure
