I’m considering losing $7K Salary Per Year for a more flexible job. Working from home / office based job.

    What y’all think?

  • Oct 30, 2020

Do whatever makes you happier bro but make sure you can maintain your expenses and factor in for the future your loss of income and where you will focus those paycuts

  • Oct 30, 2020

I haven’t been in that position, but I definitely would. At least if my stress was at the point where I would even consider that.

Especially if it gave me a bit more time to take care of myself. What good is the (extra) money if you’re chipping away at your mind and body to get it

  • Oct 30, 2020

Depends on how much you value it vs how much money you need

I'd always go for what allows me the most free time while being able to cover necessary expenses but thats because Im pursuing something thats more important to me on my own time

    FKA STUFF

I need more info on your current situation

I work in a management position for an IT Company. It’s long hours, I don’t get along with a few of the employees. I am always involved with work as we have a social media app just for our job. It’s non-stop and I can’t switch off on my days off.

Really affecting my relationship too, I get home and I am to tired to do anythin

How long have you been there?

What’s the next step and subsequent career path looking like?

Have you negotiated for flexibility? At managerial level, you could try this before leaving

Above all, do you enjoy the work? Is the new job you mentioned in the same industry?

  • Oct 30, 2020

I guess is the question you need to ask yourself is (assuming a $7k change in salary) could you afford to pay $583 a month for peace of mind? If you could, I know you would.

Depends. You gotta put into perspective how much extra money you currently have with the pay you're getting now. If you get that pay cut will you still have extra money or JUST be getting by?

Not only that but keep in mind savings. Idk how long the drive is but if you're working from home that's money saved on gas EVERY day plus you can be cooking more at home meals or whatever with the extra time. Money is also saved in less driving due to less wear on your tires/car for repairs down the road. It's stuff like that you really have to consider and keep in mind.

I took a pay cut currently but I am able to easily adjust as it's only a couple dollars an hour and still live comfortably and my wife tells me that I come home every day happy and not so depressed/stressed out. I come home in a better mood and it has helped a lot with me enjoying my time with my kid and wife in the evenings before they go to bed.

The most important thing is your health/state of mind. I spent 7 f***ing years at my last job miserable for a couple bucks more an hour and that was 7 years coming home depressed, angry, stressed and it caused a lot of unhappiness and due to all of that a lot more sleeping and doing stuff alone and being to myself. It wasn't healthy at all. I never realized how bad it was until a few months at my new job.

Bro it's a no brainer take a small pay cut. You can always keep looking for other jobs but it's gonna be better for you, your relationship, and your ability to search for said new job and be stress free during the interview process.

You'll find your place. Myself and everyone I know that looked for jobs felt hopeless until they got one. Try putting yourself out there and reaching out to people you know or hitting up randos on Linkedin

Depends on your entire money situation. Definitely try to negotiate with your employer if you could have more flexibility and keep applying to other positions. I'd hate to lose 7k in salary but not everything is money and it might not be a huge deal to you, mental health is very important and that could be worth the $600/month you're losing

If you've attained financial stability then go for it
