Okay let me criticize you to help out. I thought everything sounded really great and it was cool that you switch it up near the middle.

What I suggest is to work on your drums. The bass drum (kick drum) doesn’t sound “right” and that’s the most important part of the drum sound.

I can’t exactly tell you what’s wrong with it because I am not there with you looking at your DAW but I suggest you research and learn more about EQ and mixing bass drum for whatever genre you happen to be mixing for at the time. I felt in the second half of the song it was overly powerful (too strong and maybe it could use more roundness/boom and less of a quick attack)

Let me be clear, the bass drum sound you have is good but it just was overpowering the mix and its a bit too quick to attack (not enough boom/roundness so let it “ring” a bit longer if that makes sense)

I think it sounded pretty good for the first half of the song but I think in the future when you have a big switch up like this song you may want to change the tone or the attack of the bass drum as well. It’s kind of weird for there to be such a nice big change in the song but the bass drum is the same.

I appreciate the mixing notes! The kick being overpowering during that switch was intentional, but I understand how it could be jarring! Mixing the kick is something I’ve spent a lot of time trying to get just right. I’ve learned a lot, but I always have more to work on! What did you think of the song aside from the mix?
