I went to Japan alone two months or so pre-COVID. If you have a plan, it's nice not having to wait around on other people and actually getting to see everything you want to see. My trip wasn't completely alone, as I had days planned to see friends that I wanted to see over there, but I enjoyed my 'tourist' days because I got to go at my own pace and I didn't feel like I missed anything because people were being slow.
