I mean anyone who thinks 4K streaming is some kind of seamless, universally accessible experience, despite typical ISP plans not even having enough power to stream in true 1080p, definitely has some motion smoothing going on in their brain

It doesnt matter what you "want". What matters is what's literally possible in streaming quality given your network bandwidth, location, and constant fluctuation in speeds.

Yes and all those are checked for me. People who care about quality will make sure everything is good enough for 4k. Still dont understand the problem with wanting 4k... netflix and disney do it perfectly. You can see the stats of your quality by clicking options.

Some of you just settle with what they throw at you even though its 2020 and they are still working with 2015 ideologies.

And you don't have 300 MB/s download speed — you have 300 Mbps. Not the same thing.

    300 Mbps = 37 MB/s

24 mbs is whats required for top tier 4k hdr streaming.

Streaming in 4K (or even playing physical 4K media) also requires a lot more than buying a TV that says 4K on the box and pressing play on 4K content.

You need 4K UHD compatible HDMI cables. If you have pass throughs like a soundbar or woofer that aren't 4K compatible, you'll be watching in 1080p (and probably have no idea). Most films/tv are also shot in 2K, and then are digitally upscaled to 4K for home media release — which isn't a bad thing necessarily, but if you're one of people who "cares a lot about quality", it's a strange thing to not even mention, especially given how common upscaling/HDR has become in that market.

I’ll never forget when I got my mom our new 4K tv and I signed into netflix and then wanted another 2-4$ a month

Im still not understanding why you think hbo not offering 4k is an ok thing? Yes it requires alot to actually get it, but those who want it make sure they have it. Netflix has had it for years, disney has it, amazon has it. F*** all the parts you need to get it, whats stopping them from actually putting it on?

Also even if the film is shot in 2k and is upscaled, its still better than 1080p

For minimum 4K streaming. Not "top tier"...

And have you ever actually downloaded a large file and watched the speed being charted as it transfers? It is almost never consistent, and fluctuate quite a bit. (Not to mention server/ISP throttling).

I have 200 Mbps download speed with "no data caps". I can hook up my computer to ethernet right now and download a 2GB file and watch it go from 4MB/s to 6MB/s to 14MB/s back to 6MB/s then up to 10MB/s, and so on — in the course of 30 seconds.

I never said it wasn't ok? I said 4K streaming is largely marketing language when it comes to typical consumers (and of course, a lot of typical consumers don't view themselves as "typical").

Its almost like torrenting files also depends on other peoples wifi speeds
If this happens to you with a direct download thats on your end.

Just give them time. They’ll catch up. You cant do everything at once
