Boardwalk Empire is an American period crime drama television series created by Terence Winter and broadcast on the premium cable channel HBO. The series is set chiefly in Atlantic City, New Jersey, during the Prohibition era of the 1920s and stars Steve Buscemi as Nucky Thompson. Winter, a Primetime Emmy Award-winning screenwriter and producer, created the show, inspired by Nelson Johnson's non-fiction book Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times, and Corruption of Atlantic City, about the historical criminal kingpin Enoch L. Johnson.
The pilot episode was directed by Martin Scorsese and produced at a cost of $18 million. On September 1, 2009, HBO picked up the series for an additional 11 episodes. The series premiered on September 19, 2010, and its five-season run of 56 episodes ended on October 26, 2014.
Boardwalk Empire received widespread critical acclaim, particularly for its visual style and basis on historical figures, as well as for Buscemi's lead performance. The series received 57 Primetime Emmy Award nominations, including two for Outstanding Drama Series, winning 20. The series also won the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Drama in 2011 and two Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series in 2011 and 2012.
One of the first times I saw titties on TV, never watched properly but I'll never forget it
after Michael Pitt character died it was hard for me to continue
Villains that came after are gorgeous characters
Shame about that last season!
Definitely
In that timeskip they didn't show too many interesting things.
Show could have been 6 seasons easily. It is actually more sad they cut this for Vinyl which was cancelled after one season
Villains that came after are gorgeous characters
I liked all the characters but that was my boy.
man with the mask or blown off face was cool and Michael k Williams character was dope
Villains that came after are gorgeous characters
Gyp & Valentin S/o Richard Harrow & Michael Shannon

Also I would put this under spoiler lmao
I lost interest after that season 2 finale.
I stopped too for a bit but show still maintained a lot of quality until last season which was unfortunately rushed. Show got plenty moments that bewildered me.

Season 3 & 4 were excellent but I agree they kinda fumbled the last season...there needed to be another season in between tbh...felt like the show was growing more and more into an ensemble piece but then they got rushed to end it so they chose to turn back to Nucky as the main focus...the flashbacks were well done but also took away from the other characters...the way they handle Chalky's "exit" from the show still pisses me off and will never make sense to me no matter how many times I read the writers justification for it...skipping over Rothstein's downfall was also a big f*** up from a narrative standpoint...he was always an uneasy ally/rival of Nucky so skipping over that was moronic honestly...love this show though

Show fell off after that. Michael Pitt smoked his role too

Pitt was great but I disagree with the show falling off...Bobby Cannavale was great in season 3 as the antagonist...season 4 was also great and really gave Michael K Williams some room to shine...season 5 was rushed for sure and disappointing in many ways but not completely terrible...though the character you mentioned dying was a tough loss it also opened up more room to showcase the other characters...had he stuck around who knows if we would have been able to explore Richard, Chalky, Van Alden as in depth as did
I actually think season 5 was a solid sendoff - different vibe, different format almost (shorter season after a huge timeskip and the flashback time periods made it feel more like an epilogue miniseries imo)
worse than the incomparable season 1-4 run, but at the end of the day I'll always be happy we got it. definitely did not see that character reveal twist coming, and I loved how dark they went with Gillian in the asylum.
final scene with Nucky and Eli
