I’m also very happy that the showrunners are consistently consulting with GRRM, and they are actually planning the entire thing out ahead of time

I guess Game of Thrones walked so House of the Dragon could run.

Yuppp. D&D stopped consulting with George after season 4, and you can definitely tell. I think they just got too cocky and felt like they could do it on their own without George’s contributions because the show was blowing up so much.
And I know the books weren’t done, but it’s still f***ed up that D&D started to exclude George from the writing process of the show

George even told them they should stretch the show out to at least 10 seasons and they ignored him

And then HBO almost made the SAME mistake again when they were developing the show about The Long Night

They didn’t reach out to GRRM at all throughout the entire writing process. Then when they screened the pilot episode for HBO execs, they weren’t feeling it and said “it didn’t have the true GOT feel”

Moral of the story, if you want these shows to work…you gotta work directly with GRRM

I often think about this and how they rushed to finish GoT so they could do their Star Wars movie which then got cancelled because of how they handled GoT.

It's just so funny to me, lmaooo.

  • Watching this Rhaenrya/Alicent scenepack and I almost teared up a lil hearing Alicent deliver the I have few friends line again.

It's still so f***ing crazy how good this season was and how incredible those two characters were

  • Only two words we wanna hear from George R.R. Martin is "Book done."

    As deserved

dudes can go f*** themselves for perpetuity. If GoT just had the quality of HotD season 1, much less seasons 1-3 of its own series, it ends as one of the greatest pieces of entertainment ever

    More prophecy and visions pls

It's a shame they f***ed the ending out of pure selfishness, could've been so much better. Drogon flying over KL in real time was a cool shot though.

Crazier how HBO even allowed that s*** to begin with when they (and GRRM) wanted more seasons. Like why not just get other people to write it and have them step into a producer role or something? It's weird.

But whatever we got HotD now

Wasn’t it because GRRM gave the rights to make the show only to the duo at the beginning

Nah that was only at the beginning because he trusted them, it could easily have been changed later

Yeah but it gets worse and the show will only go further with it

Like Viserys was barely a character in the books and no one gave a s*** about his death but watching him slowly turn into a zombie in the show was

Right? But you know what’s even crazier than that? They were initially only going to do 7 but HBO convinced them to split it into 2 and do 8.
Either there were some creative contractual renegotiations that prevented D&D from getting replaced (which tracks bc they were doing so well at first when GoT started poppin off)

Or everyone involved was just tired and/or wanted more money. Which also tracks if you’ve seen the documentary they released after season 8. They show scaled a lot more than they anticipated, production getting crazy (they were basically doing a 10 hour long movie in the time it’d take to do a regular length 2 hour long film) and because HBO treated D&D like kings they let them do whatever they wanted with full creative freedom. The guy that directed the big fights (like Battle of the B******s) basically said they were unreasonable, especially when it came to feasibility due to timelines.

Lowkey the downfall of GoT and a tell-all would make such an interesting documentary.
