That shot from Texas Chainsaw 03 highkey iconic
I was dismissive of this at first too then reviews have been dropping
Oh s***

Saw this at an advanced screening last Thursday, definitely an enjoyable romp that's pretty hilarious at points. Some of the acting and dialogue admittedly aren't great (sometimes bad even), but it's not enough to sink the movie imo. Worth seeing at least once
Damn the Cloak and Dagger thread was back on KTT1 but I miss that show and it was great to see Olivia Holt on the big screen
I liked this, put it on the same level as that Thanksgiving movie. Though I feel like slashers nowadays are basically horror comedies now, wonder when it’ll come time to have a more serious slasher come back around. Not that I’m hating though, I like these kinds of movies but they’re starting to feel more of the same

I feel you but I liked how this balanced being a parody of romantic comedies and slasher flicks at the same time. Thought it was all around better than Thanksgiving even though I enjoyed that one too.
I saw that the director worked on College Humor and I thought, as long as this movie doesn't feel like College Humor this could be good. Not because I'm so above it, but because those shorts are just not very cinematic.
Alas, this is not a youtuber-turned-filmmaker leap of the likes of the Philippou brothers' Talk to Me. It's something I think would be more suited to Netflix viewing. A film like this makes me very aware of how cinematography and tone contribute to the horror genre. The first Terrifier movie has technically "worse" cinematography than this, and yet it gives infinitely more personality and mood. Something about the production and acting and general feel of this is, indeed, giving College Humor. Just look at the way the news report segments were done.
As for the tone, I don't mind blending comedy with horror, but I'm not a fan of this fake, winky, "skit" humor. Unless, of course, you're going for full-on parody like the Scary Movie franchise. Essentially, what I'm saying is... give me campy trash... give me prestige horror... or give me dumb parody... but don't give me this cute, toothless, mass-appeal fluff. Also, a certain setup / payoff device was far too easy to see coming.

Yeah I think I just went in with the wrong expectation. The trailer didn’t give me a parody romcom vibe but it’s clear that’s what the movie was leaning more for

In a Violent Nature is pretty much that though.
I f***ed with this. The romcom parody stuff made it fun and the kills were solid. Mason Gooding and Olivia Holt have good chemistry so that definitely helped. The reveal was pretty predictable and a little iffy but it didn’t ruin the movie for me. Good time.
Is it bad that this is my second favorite movie of the year so far?
No it’s about ranked similar with me I think only being topped by September 5.
