DS2 wasnt a great success. But a stealth Kojima game is something entirely different. You could get the whole Metal Gear audience back for that. Sony green lit this despite knowing that Death Stranding didn’t bring any crazy returns. I think its more about Sony being hyper aware right now where all their money is going after having one flop after the other. Physint was probably not even in a bigger development stage which is why it was easy to cancel.

they need Wolverine, Laufey and Intergalactic to really deliver, and Wolverine just looks alright

I don't see the point in giving a dev that much money and free reign to produce bullshit. I would have no issues with what Kojima did if he actually made good games. Kick his ass to curb and save that money for other projects rather than waste even more money just to keep that guy happy.
