Been watching this s*** lately. How had I never heard of this? How is this not one of the most well known things Netflix has ever done? So far its maybe the best thing Ive ever seen on Netflix (on season 2 currently). The detail on each era and each region is incredible. A must for all rap fans. The first 2 episodes, especially, were f***ing incredible. Not knowing much about the early days of the genre s*** was a treat to watch and learn about. A lot of these old school songs are so dope too. Just now starting to get into the 90s n s***. But even if the 90s to the present isn't quite as in depth as the first season. S***s worth it for the first season alone. Hell i'd love to see Netflix do this for every genre. I'd watch all of em. S***s fascinating. The way its formatted, its a docuseries that can go on forever. Should be the main documentary for rap going forward.

Thats the one I just watched(his early years Oak town one) and I gotta say...that first verse he laid down for Digital Underground... what an introduction.

Can't believe Digital Underground hasn't been discussed more on here either bro.

They basically laid out the entire foundation for west coast rap in the early 90's. Worked with pac. Like how aren't they getting their flowers

Literally the gate from old school to modern rap

i liked that they covered southern stuff cause it feels like i've always seen stuff about stuff that went down everywhere else but the south

Some of my favorite tracks so far:

Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five: The Message

    Africa Bambaata: Planet Rock

    Ice T: Colors

Loved the Cold Crush Brothers and early stuff too but they weren't making records back in those days

my favorite episode was the super producers one because that's more for me

That and the World Class Wrecking Crew basically changed the sound of rap fr lol loved hearing about how Schooly D in Philly actually made the first gangsta rap song and Ice T basically took his idea and made a grimier, west coast version and the rest is history. S*** is so dope fr

Yeah I haven't gotten too far but I'm interested to see if current rap legends will respect this doc like the old legends did. Would love to see Ye, Drake, Cole, Kenny etc.. all talking like all these older legends taking part.
