I chalk this up to how active the mainstream have been so far this decade.

Once enough time has passed this won’t happen again.

    Albums used to be events

    They’re now not

    This is a problem

This isn’t a hip hop problem

    It’s happening across all media

  • Jim Halpert

Are you saying that’s good or bad.

Both 🫥 but honestly I feel like they would’ve all made a great project eventually but who knows….

XXX, Pop Smoke, and Juice were supposed to be the ones tbh

And Von, he was better than Durk

  • ImAUsernameLike

you only say this because they’re both New Yorkers with deep voices

the comparison doesn’t go any further than that

Yeah. I mean Designer had a #1 record and a lot of buzz from NY too. But the voice plays a factor

I agree. It is still a problem for hip hop. Which was the most album centric genre from 2009-2015. Which made that era so f***ing fun.

Is there a way to measure how “album centric” hip hop was to anything else

Idk if that’s true, maybe just we paid more attention to hip hop than other genres

Like if you listening to pop/country exclusively I’m sure they had big moments in their genre that defined those years as well.

This isn’t true. Most popular genres are primarily focused on the album format

If anything hip hop is one of the few where loosies/non album tracks have always carried weight

I don’t listen to enough genres outside hip hop to give you good examples

It just seems a reach to say hip hop was more album centric than other genres. If one could even objectively prove that. And I don’t know what that means

Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift were all in giants back then.

Most mainstream rap acts are just on their off season.

It's been nonstop drops since 2021

Why was there never an off year between 1998 and 2022 then?
