Maybe Zack is on to something. Maybe Drake is reinventing himself more often than we are giving credit for. It's just a lot of the time recently it's been ass, and the rest of the music is s*** we've heard him do already throughout the years, love it or hate it
nah he’s not necessarily reinventing himself, he’s simply progressing with new sounds and melodies along the same line of creation process and lyrical variety

And theres nothing wrong with that since thats the goal clearly. The problem people are talking about are clearly from a listener point of you
which you may say "then go listen to something else"
and I may say "yeah no s*** duh"
Is it better for an artist to evolve their themes/lyrics while maintaining the same sound, or to evolve their sound while maintaining the same themes and lyrics?

evolve everything if you can help it
Good to know r&b can only sound one way forever
nah this a bad take, we have definitely severely moved away from traditional R&B for a long time now and it’s sad cause takes like this continue the decline
R&B was down 70% last year vs 2023 cause we continue to move away from traditional recipes and just accepting DAW sounds as opposed to real instruments, exceptional song structures/writing, and just that collective energy that 2000s R&B triggers in a venue full of people when you play it
evolve everything if you can help it
Well yeah I agree, but I'm talking about one or the other
Sounds very easy, something all rappers can do. I'm sure Kendrick can sing an entire R&B album and make it sound good, it's just so easy right
this isn’t really about kendrick tho
One of my problem with Drake's music has always been the lyrical content. It's vapid and a whole lotta nothing.
Plus, he got way lazier. No hooks, lazy beat switches, stitching different songs together
Well yeah I agree, but I'm talking about one or the other
then I say the latter is better
jpegmafia has talked about the exact same s*** for like 3-4 projects straight and it's all heat because he always reinvents his sound and approaches all of his songs and projects drastically differently
the lack of differentiation may catch up with him eventually but because he constantly plays in a landscape of differing sounds he'd sooner change his subject matter probably before you get tired of how he makes songs because theyre all different
Sounds very easy, something all rappers can do. I'm sure Kendrick can sing an entire R&B album and make it sound good, it's just so easy right
he actually could with enough vocal practice, structuring songs within his vocal range and ofc good ole melodyne like Drake
but he would rather stick to rapping
this isn’t really about kendrick tho
It is, it's about all rappers. Same standards for everybody, especially since it's so easy to hop between genres according to music expert Mark Moschino

i think keep the daw sounds but just have more people collaborating
a lot of really transcendent moments were missing out on cause all the parts are written by one guy

Nah you either you got it or you don't. Drake been doing it since forever and his vocals can still be very rough sometimes. Seeing how Kendrick struggles with the vocal inflections on rap songs I don't even want to hear him try to sing live

yea I don’t mind daw sounds but it just added to the laziness of artists to not even learn song structure

Tbh, I'm not tryna hear an R&B album from Kendrick. Unless he can do Luther 22 times he can keep it

i had a song on adult swim last year but i don’t think it’s a revolutionary take to say that artists can explore further outside of their comfort zone and benefit from them
yea I don’t mind daw sounds but it just added to the laziness of artists to not even learn song structure
when you work by yourself you just fall into habits and not realize it

Except it ruined any excitement around his career and that shouldnt be something thats just brushed over as a lesson for the next generation lol
Its two types of artists fr lol
zacks gonna ignore me because he can’t british attack me into devaluing my opinion

not true at all. do you practice singing? Respectfully cause if you don’t, then you can’t really say what one can do with enough practice
you doubt Kendrick the same way you hate people doubting Drake. my homie isn’t a singer and we have plenty R&B songs cause he challenged himself and practiced. I’ve done this for like 3 homies now who were scared they couldn’t sing. All you have to do is the thousands of vocal practices out their to improve your vocal fold and just find out which vocal range you are in and practice with your favorite songs in that vocal range as further practice
you armchair niggas stink lmfao
Sounds very easy, something all rappers can do. I'm sure Kendrick can sing an entire R&B album and make it sound good, it's just so easy right
Kendrick could make an album full of These Walls, head is the answer, luther, we cry together and drake would just kinda make $$$4u or FATD in that vein at best
You see how you niggas just be talking lmao
zacks gonna ignore me because he can’t british attack me into devaluing my opinion
I'm ignoring it because that's not what your initial post said. You said it's so easy to switch between genres, not that it benefits them, which even a 7 year old could tell u
i think more than anything drakes not allowed to take risks since the context of making a drake album requires a certain amount of return and taking risks easily back fires
