I mean no new stars or songs are really blowing up like they did in the 2010s, all the new stars are way too niche. And most hits are from people that have been at it a long time rather than the new up and comers.

the entire point of streaming is to create niches

  • Damn everything is label and money made. Kinda wild.

R&B decline had been the most noticeable.. especially soul music. Even the white soul music artists aren't getting pushed or prioritized.

    Joss Stone
    Daley
    Allen Stone

... they barely making music. S***.. it's hard to find people who can just sing period without voice manipulation. Everybody sounding like a variation of SZA nowadays.

It's not framing, hip-hop is slowly losing its market share of new music engagement compared to other genres. It has the second-lowest percentage of Current (0-18 months old) music streams, with only Rock lower than it, and it has the second-highest percentage of Deep Catalog (60 months and older) streams, with only Rock higher than it:

it is framing because none of the other genres are reaching the heights hiphop reached despite its decline

it’s saying “oh hiphop is declining” without saying “none of the other genres are reaching its heights in decline, however”

it’s pretty clear why they are presenting it this way lol. hiphop went from 50% to 25% without any of the other genres even going above 20% lol. that don’t tell me success for the other genres in any way, just that hiphop is sharing more of the pie by decreasing to the other genres level which was below its peak significantly

This too, the disconnect from R&B is having an effect. Even the Bryson Tiller era dudes done pretty much vanished.

That’s not framing at all? Nobody ever implied that other genres were reaching hip-hop’s heights at its peak. But the fact of the matter is that hip-hop is declining commercially, and new music is being dominated by World genres & Country right now. Those other genres don’t have to create a new peak for that to not be the case

  • I know one thing...

It's going to be a million f***ing videos on this by the end of next week lol

  • SABMAN TURNT

    this should be obvious

white people who used to play Sicko Mode & Mo Bamba 24/7 now listen to Morgan Wallen & other country artists

Exactly. Young white kids don’t find hip-hop cool anymore

It’s literally implied in how it’s posted and stats chosen

the reason they chose 2023 is because that’s when the “hiphop is dead” and “labels are deprioritizing hiphop due to the decline” that was happening that year. niggas remember lol

Thug got a whole new collective under him with they own original motion in less than 2 years post prison?

Nobody knows who any of those people are

Also this is equivalent market share so if one genre goes up another has to go down, it’s based on your percentage of the pie

So you just ignoring the stats completely and instead are sticking to “this is just racist framing”

I don’t even think you can even pinpoint it to 1 specific genre.

I think the accessibility of music is so broad, and not as collective anymore.

As someone growing up in the 2000’s and 2010’s everyone knew what was popular and the limited availability of listening made it more impactful.

The Current vs. Deep Catalog percentage difference for Hip-Hop tells the entire story

People still love hip-hop. But they crave GREAT hip-hop. Mainstream hip-hop has been overall ass in the 2020s

hip hop fans are the most album centric fans of all genres. we don't get enough credit for appreciating bodies of work.

so makes sense for other genres to not decline right now that aren't so album focsued

    just my take.
