Hopefully this continues, the genre needs a reset.

Idk if there’s ever been a case of the dominant genre of anything falling off and experiencing a “reset”. S*** just dies

Hip-hop is at its lowest in 2025. I’m not actually shocked. Just sad considering it’s my favorite genre. Sad to see the state that it’s in

just 7 years ago everything was so different. for me 2018 still feels so recent. everyone here was celebrating that pop was falling off

Hip hop is going to go out like rock soon. Not good. SoundCloud era lowkey killed mainstream hip hop. We need something different and fast.

Nope, it was exploitative labels killing talent. You cannot blame children finding a culture that they could participate in through their bedroom for killing hiphop. Especially when billionaires were abandoning well-established relationships and artistic ventures to make a quick dime off the cheapest expression of art for its time

So many good, young artists signed and squeezed out for a few hits because rap is cheap, then 360’d and left in the dust

Yall will blame mass culture and format and not the soulless slave drivers of capitalism who’ve been twisting the necks of culture for decades.

Even rap label heads suck. People like Diddy, Suge, Kanye, all mismanaged artists and neutered careers of advancing their own financial positions

Why are we calling ourselves anti-capitalists if we so quickly contradict our material a***yses on the realities of rap just because we don’t like the music some people make?

    What’s the reason?

This didn’t happen overnight, this s*** was years in the making.

    Its several reasons including

-labels dont seem to be spending as much on hip hop in my opinion,

    • also labels make an ridiculous amount of money on old music that they aren’t as worried if new music pops.

-the newer generation of rappers are not that talented, they’re bots that all sound the same.

-content( streaming, social media, YouTube) has overtaken music consumption. Kids would rather watch their favorite steamers or scroll on TikTok/IG than listen to music.

    • there are way less great producers than previous eras of hip hop, nobody is really doing anything unique sonically

    W
-smaller labels that found and developed talent no longer exist. These major labels dont have a clue .
