and ironically enough, the most popular rapper ever is also a horrorcore-rapper.

Now while alot of people already think MMLP is a classic, how can you say it isnt one. He pretty much introduced the world to HORRORCORE RAP and its the pinnacle of penmanship in this sub-genre. He mightve topped this later on, on certain Relapse tracks but MMLP set the stage right for that album. (while still keeping a regular album feel with some insane horror lyrics and dark beats mixed in p much)

Other great horrorcore rappers def profited from Em being so popular and having this kind of edge in his lyrics.

Its the HARDEST subgenre while maintaining all aspects of that make rap great such as lyrics, toughness or catchiness.

Not many rappers sounded COLDER than Three 6 Mafia in the 90s or Em in the 2000s

Insane flows, crazy atmospheric beats and for the regular mind disturbing yet sometimes genius lyrics.

How can it be overlooked if Three 6 Mafia are one of the most popular rap groups of the genre?

Naturally horrorcore won't be played in the clubs or on the radio, despite that it's still been one of the more popular sub-genres because of Three 6 Mafia, Eminem, Scarface, Bone Thugs n Harmony, and even Odd Future to a degree.

    This.

And I know KTT don't listen to either of them, but Tech N9ne and Insane Clown Posse are also wildly popular and built their career and huge fanbases off of making horrorcore.

Wu Tang Clan can at times even fall into the horrorcore genre, especially RZA, and that's before you get into Gravediggaz.

Raider Klan, Denzel Curry, early ASAP Mob, early Action Bronson, Flatbush Zombies, Death Grips, and so many more...

For a supposedly "over-looked" sub-genre there sure are a lot of popular artists and groups with sizeable fanbases who either have, or continue to make that music.

Yeah overlooked is the wrong term for this genre. You just don’t hear it outside or anything cause the subject matter isn’t as accessible. Like this is legit scarin the hoes music lmao

Well I think its overlooked compared to other sub-genres such as Pop Rap, Trap Rap, or Gangsta Rap.

Gun bars or d*** raps get way more respect and appreciation I feel like

Also, most of the artists you named get praised for their street rap or club records, or in RnB/soul records like in Tylers case for example.

Ems most popular songs also arent his horrorcore songs.

I remember when "Dance With The Devil" by Immortal Technique was a lot people's first exposure to horrorcore.

This is true but at the same time when these artists blew up, their Horrorcore subject matter became more tame until they disregarded that genre altogether

Actual horrorcore artists make music that will not be played anywhere except in your house lol

  • Oct 31, 2023

Dance With The Devil is thriller rap moreso IMO... not menacing like a real horrorcore rap song.

    Its just super dark lyrically.

Horrorcore has literally influenced much of the gangsta rap and trap we got throughout the 2010s

Stop tryna move the goalpost bruh Just say you like horrorcore. Why you tryna downplay its popularity and influence just to get your wrong take off
