Is that the actual definition of the nuclear family or is it that particular writers definition of it? I feel like it’s the latter but I’ll read it at some point
yeah nuclear family is basically just mom, dad and kids
justin laboy has done more harm to the black community than kevin samuels ever will

pretty sure the nuclear family is mom + dad + two kids and no definition beyond that but defining it in that way inherently excludes grandparents/aunts/uncles/cousins as part of the family
Link dat?
Nuclear family has never been the standard for any PEOPLE outside the European continent until the white man forced it upon us
We live in modern times get over yourself
niggas stretched this clip
which is a white ppl thing im pretty sure
Some of u soooo weird on that race s*** like how the f*** is a stable family not beneficial for a child

Idk man. My grandmother picked up from elementary school most days but by definition I still lived in a nuclear family

im talking about being fairly distanced from your grandparents/cousins/extended family being a white thing
I'm not black so take it with a grain of salt
Both seem to have good intentions. Johnson has the intention of elevating women who feel bad just for living in a white-dominated society, Samuels has the intention of giving young men some sense of guidance that maybe they didn't get growing up.
But I feel like both end up overdoing it. Samuels is too cynical about love and relationships. Johnson mythologizes women to the point they are referred to as deities. I feel like you can use both of their approaches, but once you go too much in one direction you lose connection to reality. Women are humans too man, there's some good some bad. Sure you can get your tips and what not on how to spit game, you can show appreciation and humilityfor the women in our life, but using common sense, some self-respect and some empathy goes a long way.
Anyway this is just some stupid internet beef prolly

What do you mean by short end of the stick?
macleans.ca/opinion/how-the-nuclear-family-structure-was-forced-upon-present-day-black-families
Historically, African societies were more matriarchal than patriarchal. And community based. The nuclear family structure has done it's best to pacify the woman's role in favor of the man BUT putting the man in a position (economically, we know we earn less) that is impossible to uphold. So in turn, both man and woman in this "nuclear family structure" end up losing (GI Bill, single parent household which majority has always been the mom, etc.)
The theories of historic race essentialism (such as that of French historian Jules Michelet) deemed these values to mark Africa as “woman,” and “her races” as “feminine.” Hundreds of years later, the theory proffered by the U.S. government’s Nixon administration on the Black family (commonly known as the Moynihan Report) concludes that “the Negro community has been forced into a matriarchal structure which, because it is too out of line with the rest of the American society, seriously s the group as a whole, and imposes a crushing burden on the Negro male, and, in consequence, on a great many Negro women as well.”
And that's not even talking about the grandmas and great grandmas that "held it down" while they husbands was out having kids outside of their relationship but because "they stuck through the mess", we romanticize those elder relationships not knowing that....the woman was probably going through hell most of the time.
It's why it's hella ironic the person trying to uphold this "nuclear family structure" in the black community, is a combative black man towards both women and men (I seen those clips too, and I think those are corny too) lol.
Sorry but Kevin Samuels def has this one. He a real one and YALL KNOW FULL WELL what happened to the OG Dr. Umar ( Derrick JAXN )
Idk man. My grandmother picked up from elementary school most days but by definition I still lived in a nuclear family
yeah the "nuclear family" thing is kinda meaningless cause its really just two kids living with their parents
there can be such a wide range of family dynamics within that and so much is dependent on other factors
like i have two sisters and live with my parents but we are probably closer to the idea of a nuclear family than you are, even if you fit the definition and my family doesnt
why black people gotta be like this. why can’t both coexist. i’ve learned from both.
Kevin be making more logical sense than Dr. Umar a lot of times even tho I don't agree with everything.
