I think the issue prolly is with some artist is that they only offer one type of product of sound that we love and expect.

And when the demand diminishes they stop supplying

But other adaptable artist ie. J, Kanye, Wayne, & Carti all offer a more inelastic product where innovation has keep their pockets fed

some people do this s*** to get out of where they are, once they make it they can relax and that motivation goes away

others do it out of passion
