There is a misguided idea that India should be grateful for the democracy, law and trains that the British Empire brought to their country. But along with these ‘gifts’, Britain also stole $45 trillion from India during its long and oppressive rule, which culminated in the biggest mass migration in human history during the Partition of India and Pakistan.
And those beloved trains? They became the sites of mass slaughter as violent clashes occurred when over four million people were uprooted from their homes and forced to trek to a Muslim-majority Pakistan and a Hindu-majority India. VICE World News host Zing Tsjeng reveals exactly why India shouldn’t be grateful for their trains.

I have bare Pakistani & Indian friends that say that before the British came, they all lived in peace within India. Literally, their Great grandparents lived next door to different religious people - not separated.
This is from 1st person accounts of their great grandparents that lived during those times.

yeah i think its pretty known that religion wasn't a big issue there until Britian split them up by religion
Yeah people and countries conquered, murdered, pillaged and raped in history (and still do today)
Wonder if it wouldve been any different if their positions in the world reversed. Would India not conquer and f*** up other countries?

Hats off to Britain tho man, they f***ed my country too - but damn. How f***ing commando & raw do you have to be, to infiltrate & economically F*** countries out of their resources (& bring them back to UK), to profit off them?
That’s sick & evil, but if all the countries in the world were as united within themselves as the UK was, they would’ve kicked out the colonizers THE MOMENT they smelled some funny s***

not really true tbh
Violence between Muslims and Hindus was there since the mughals came in the 14th century.
The British "just" fueled the hate by divide and rule

Well, yeah - but they were moving past the hate rhetoric bro. And regardless, no foreign entity should’ve interfered in their healing process
That’s the issue here.
Indias history is full of wars and violence. Why do you think the british had it so easy to take over?
The country was divided my muslims, hindus, sikhs etc (maratha, mughals, delhi sultanate, etc.). massacres happened daily
There was never an unity tbh.
During the Maratha invasions of Bengal against Nawab of Bengal, the Marathas occupied Bihar and western Bengal up to the Hooghly River. During that time, the Maratha invaders, called "Bargi" in Bengali, perpetrated atrocities against the local population. The Marathas reportedly plundered and burned villages, murdered pregnant women and infants, and gang-raped women. An estimated 400,000 people were killed.
During the invasion, the Marathas targeted Bengali Muslims, many of whom fled to take shelter in East Bengal, fearing for their lives in the wake of the Maratha attacks. Many Bengali Hindus initially supported the Marathas, seeing them as liberators, but the Marathas also perpetrated many atrocities against Bengali Hindus, who ended up opposing the Marathas and supporting the Muslim Nawab of Bengal.
Saying the hate started when the british is just propaganda because desis like to hate on Whites No wonder tbh

Well bro. As you said, they’d been living there since the 14th century. They would’ve created Pakistan way the fk back then if they were not coexist-able.
Funny how within 50 years of the British arriving, s*** hit the fan

i mean the Mughal Muslim empire could be counted as some kind of predecessor of Pakistan
The fall off of the empire was probably due to its too huge expansion in different regions with different cultures. Uprisings started very soon and the empire fell off in the 18th century. The Hindu and Sikh parts in India never f***ed with Muslims and the other way round too. At some time the mughals persecuted Hindus very harshly and killed them. Of course they took revenge. One reason why many indian hindus still hate Muslims (especially Pakistanis).
