So, the Future and 69 case was an isolated incident: Future eventually dropped out and 69 had legal issues
So she simply replaced Future and 69 with Juice (Nicki Wrld Tour) and had a moderately successful European leg (but it took a last minute 2-for-1 deal for top tier seats to help the show at the O2 sell out)
    https://metro.co.uk/2019/03/12/nicki-minaj-storms-londons-o2-arena-new-tour-four-epic-moments-happened-8889648/

But then she did this, which ruined her credibility in the UK: https://www.nme.com/news/music/nicki-minaj-margaret-thatcher-shout-out-2370356
ON TOP OF ever considering 69 as a support act*

And of course the The Pinkprint Tour was successful in Europe, especially in London with Trey Songz and Ester Dean

And, presently, she's pregnant and COVID exists and since she has only announced her album title last Month, we'll see how she performs next year

But ultimately, Nicki is not that big, relatively. She has 2 #1s and around 10 top 10s? She's top 15 streamed (for reference, she's 1 point above Taylor Swift, who had 6 #1 and was absent from Spotify for half a decade) songs on Spotify due to Spotify's algorithm promoting Black women within "urban" playlists. For her to sell out an arena in Europe, she needs support, similar to Jason Derulo, Khalid, Halsey and J Balvin (who all eclipse her in Monthly listeners)

Last time I saw Nicki, I was 17 (Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded) and it was great. Now I'm too old to see her because her new fans will expect a different route from her, and I couldn't associate with their youthful energy. Truthfully, considering her abilities as a rapper, should retire the poppy era tracks that made her a household name. It just divided her fanbase, created The Barbz and forced Nicki into a creative limbo

*I don’t side with Nicki Minaj for the way she co-signs abusers without thinking of the repercussions, and the way those co-signs impact her majority queer fanbase

TL;DR Nicki might struggle to fill an arena in 2019, but she sure knows how to work a crowd

Hope that somewhat answers your question

first of all thank u for replying because this post was very thoughtful and informative

addressing some points: would u say picking 69 has impacted the possibilities of having a successful tour? from what i see her fans rly dont mind her supporting him (or her pedo brother for that matter)

plus i havent heard her last album but isnt she already in the process of retiring the pop stuff? because with the rise of cardi b and meg surely shed want to reclaim the title of "queen of rap", so if she already isnt doing this she will begin to

also interesting that the artists she has to rely on that u named all make pop music (if we can ascribe reggaeton as pop), would it be the same in the us? guess we are gonna have to wait for her next US tour to tell

    Not a problem

So for your point regarding 69: Nicki only considered that 69's popularity is mainly mainland Europe and she generally and historically takes pleasure in controversy and press. And it did cause controversy and press - led by Khia - and Nicki simply said "I don't jump on bandwagons, I simply have a mind of my own," so the old/new fans were conflicted, but this reasoning is why she continues to work with him

It was a considerable misstep in the UK because 69's reach isn't too great here and he's more known for negative press than long-standing, impactful music. She should not have invested an entire North American and European tour with someone in the middle of a legal case - that's idiotic
The change to Juice Wrld at least made sense

I will say, finally, about her UK tour, I thought the fact that Nicki stayed over half an hour after her curfew time at her London show and got a £300,000 fine. She isn’t desperately gunning for a quick money grab anymore, so her music will reflect this, ultimately

Though the real issue here, which touches on your next point, is Nicki has spent her career readjusting her musical persona to fit whatever sound she was experimenting with at the time

But to me, back-to-their-roots Rap has always been a safe space for rappers who’ve rejected the idea of assimilating into the mainstream (think Kanye), and so for to return to that sphere in the years since ‘Roman Reloaded’ was a wise and admirable move

Calling Nicki a popstar doesn’t fit her, either; she's still a rapper

It's just the highs and lows of her career mean she’s cast a much wider net with her fanbase. She’s become a rapper playing arena shows to primarily Pop fans, and that dichotomy between the artist and audience’s preferred tastes is always so conflicting (imagine her playing Lookin' Ass to young teenagers)

I was listening to Nicki during her mixtape era. I listen to Nicki a lot but cannot relate to her younger fans - simply because they want the Pop-side of her - and I'm super critical of her Rap music and image

When I saw her live, she was trying her best to retain that level of international fame, the kind that can sell out arenas with young audiences who turn up to hear electropop "hits", while remaining true to her craft

But she's got new priorities: marriage, a Son on the way and mixing family with management

J Balvin is super interesting because he will sell out MSG, like it's nothing, but struggle to sell out a London arena. I'm not too clued on America's individual differences (I can find the data, but I don't have the direct experience of your culture) so I couldn't comment on that

Missed your most important point, to be fair

because with the rise of cardi b and meg surely shed want to reclaim the title of "queen of rap", so if she already isnt doing this she will begin to

    For sure!
She sees the competition. We'll see a lot more aggressive Nicki in her next album
Seems like her song with YoungBoy versus Cardi X Meg will be reminiscent of Doja X Nicki versus Beyoncé X Meg

This year, we've had so many women peak at #1 / top 10. The competition is heating up. Nicki needs to come correct this year or find an heir ASAP

someone find that insane tweet in reply to fergs tweet about their single from her stans, they were talking about having groups dedicated to inflating her numbers via multiple purchases of merch/digital songs and borderline stream farming her music (if i remember correctly)
