First things first; your s*** will NEVER sound like Justice or Tame Impala, just be prepared for THAT alone

download ableton or fl a couple vsts for synths you only need a few you can mix good enough with the built in stuff

then yeah start searching tutorials for the style of music you wanna make, like youtube videos and emulating music you like till you get the hang of it

it’s hard at first but once you learn it you get better and faster

also learning music theory isn’t very hard at all, you just gotta learn which note combination sound good

You can make beats without music theory but why limit yourself like that? Atleast learn the basics.

  • i can teach you music theory

  • You don’t need it but it can help. Especially if you’re sampling stuff like all it takes is a decent ear to make something sound adequate. Trust ur gut and learn from your idols

learning a Little music theory and a few piano chords / progressions will go a LONG way fam

think about it like playing keyboard: yes you can play by ear, learn scales, and figure out how to play a song with that alone. But you're gonna be bruteforcing every single track. whereas If you learn how to read sheet music, you'll not only have a way to quickly wrap your head around a new song, but your previous knowledge will be Built upon instead of basically every time you open your DAW being a game of roulette. Its gonna be frustrating as f***

just watch these vids from a guy who produces for iayze a lot. the theory is just a fast pipeline to unlocking your best ideas.

all im saying. when i first started at 17 i quit after a few months cause i couldnt understand why my s*** didnt sound like mbdtf. when i got back into it few years later i realized you got to stay at it at least eight hours at a time every day before you are able to start really manipulating everything to your creative will.
