    Mayo clinic?

You think im listening to anything cumskins say?

In seriousness though: a "REM cycle" encompasses all of those sleep levels, not just REM sleep. Thats why its called a cycle — you go from light sleep to REM sleep. The cycle ends after REM sleep and thats when you should be waking up

    nice

i hope ppl reading this thread realize u don't really know what you're talking about beyond a superficial level and don't try and survive on two 90m naps

REM cycle and sleep cycle are used interchangeably in sleep science researching the 90min process of brain refresh in sleep.

There are various sub-arguments within this research, with some advocating for at least 2-3 cycles per 24hrs, while other say you need no less than 4-5 cycles.

This is an extremely thorough and relatively well known branch of sleep science and idk why you'd jump in here trying to discredit what im sharing because you didnt understand the difference between REM cycle and REM sleep, and you can use google and copy/paste.

Look you not as wrong as I initially thought, prolly not wrong at all, but off rip suggesting a biphasic sleep schedule to someone who already struggles with sleep ain't the way imo

I think the other suggestions like exercise, a more regular schedule, getting sunlight on your skin and eyes first thing, etc. are better options to try first

Of course all of those things help greatly too. I dont think anyone should just hit a switch and start doing 3 hours of sleep every night tomorrow.

I only mentioned the 90min cycle because OP said he went to bed at 11 and woke up around 1 or 2am and couldnt get back to sleep, and since thats ~3 hours it could very well be a factor why he couldnt go back to bed.

Well I woke up 30 mins ago 3:30am rn

The sleep cycle posts have been good

As far as energy expenditure goes I already work out for around 2 hours everyday, 1 hr weights 1 hr cardio, on top of martial arts 3x a week. My recovery feels atrocious when I'm stuck in this sort of sleep pattern though.

Water intake is fine, usually 4-5L. While I eat clean I might not be eating enough since my appetite got destroyed by COVID two weeks ago.

I thinkt the culprit here is that I reintroduced naps while i was sick, I limit them to only 30 minutes though

I try and get sunlight for around 30 min in the morning around 7-9am. Another hour at least sometime between 6-8pm while running outside. Otherwise just randomly throughout the day too.

An hr before I sleep I take:
    500mg Magnesium L Aspartate, 30mg Zinc Picolinate, 10mg Vitamin B6
    +
    10mg Melatonin

    • try to keep as consistent a sleep/wake time 7 days a week
    • no caffeine after 1-2PM
    • EXERCISE (biggest game changer for me)
    • try to have a wind down routine, I know it’s not always possible in this day and age but it’s nice letting your brain and body know ahead of time that you’re getting ready to sleep

try doing these with intention for a couple weeks and see what happens
