I think that we're brought in by Alex's charm and humour and do eventually root for him in some way. I think that's part of the point that even though we see him do horrific things, we're still kind of on his side. I always find that one of the most genius things in the book/film that we can see him attack and rape people yet soon enough he has us laughing or hoping he doesn't get hurt. This also highlights the terrible nature of the experiments done on Alex as we still find them reprehensible yet we can grow to like a murderer/rapist.

Kubrick goes to great pains to suggest that Alex is a product of his environment - a child that has grown up in a violent society and has therefore become violent. I think we're supposed to feel sympathy for him, in that we, too, would be as violent if we had been raised in the same way. I don't think feeling sympathy for him necessarily means excusing his behaviour.

By the end of the movie he has become a obedient robot that society has shaped him to be stripped him of all freewill becoming docile and a shell of his previous self.

It's a rather uncomfortable topic, and i find it ironic that he's a popular choice when Halloween comes round that many people cosplay as him. He's a popular character due to being excellently written, complex, interesting, and superbly portrayed by Malcolm McDowell.

I'm interested to see what KTT thinks of Alex 🤔

never seen the movie, only read the book while in rehab

I do know the ending is different than the movie and I genuinely believed he deserves a chance at redemption

I think that we're brought in by Uzi's charm and humour and do eventually root for him in some way. I think that's part of the point that even though we see him do horrific things, we're still kind of on his side. I always find that one of the most genius things in his journey is that we can see him attack and throw phones at people yet soon enough he has us laughing or hoping he gets a text back from Britney. This also highlights the terrible nature of the experiments done on Uzi as we still find them reprehensible yet we can grow to like an alleged abuser.

  • I found this movie hard to follow because of the dialogue, I had no idea what they were saying half the time. Had to look up the commentary that the movie was making after I finished it The rape scenes went too far for me, they were difficult to watch. I would not recommend this movie to any women I know, they'd think I'm a weirdo because of those scenes

Great atmosphere and mood though, the camera work is crazy. Found myself getting lost in the colors and backgrounds. And the actor was stellar, could immediately see Heath Ledger got inspiration for his Joker from that role
