    Title.
How will artists like Lil Baby or Lizzo be looked back upon?
Which artists will stand the test of time, and which will be regarded with a “it made sense at the time” attitude.

I refuse to be negative in OP but to start us off I’ll give 3 artists I think will be looked upon positively for years to come.
    Lizzo
    Tyler, The Creator
    Earl Sweatshirt

    Honestly, you never know.

I remember tons of people s***ting on C4 when it came out yet it remains Wayne's most streamed album(even over C3) and there's lot of young Millennials and older Zoomers who have nostalgia for it.

A lot of this music will age well imo. I think most music from 2015-present will age well.

They'll think we were all on d**** and they'd be right for the most part

One interesting thing I noticed now is the growing legend status of deceased rappers like XXX, Mac Miller, Pop Smoke, and Juice.

XXX's album overtook Scorpion in streams and Pop Smoke literally has the best selling rap album of the 2020's iirc.

Whether you love them or hate them, those were the guys that were supposed to push the genre forward. It’s sad to think about how we lost a whole generation of stars before they reached their full potential.

It’ll age how every subsequent era does. The people who grew up in this timeframe will always view it as the (their) pinnacle of music. Once the next era is ushered in we’ll hear about how music is going in the wrong direction and not as good as the predecessor

  • Money over b****es is the song I sing
But when I'm done recordin' and the cameras off
I'll probably blow a whole bag on the baddest broad

    You’re probably right.
I guess my curiosity is which albums/songs/artists will be the ones that are still being positively listened to and streamed like 20 years from now

I honestly am NOT over the moon on her or her music, but I think she will be remembered very fondly.
She’s got that mainstream appeal and has enough musical chops that music nerds will still listen and respect it.
Idk if I’d call her generational, but I think she will last

    I literally haven’t heard a Lizzo song since 2018

Praying this one reply doesn’t derail the thread, but if I may triple post in my own thread, I do think Drake will steadily gain more and more respect as time goes by and his more forgettable stuff fades from memory and all that’s left is his hits.
I think he deserves more respect than he gets though, so maybe it’s just wishful thinking

Really? I couldn’t escape About Damn Time for a WHILE this year (not that I’d want to, it’s my favorite song I’ve heard from her).
I guess different people run into different music “in the wild”

Honestly there isn’t a lot of true star power in this newest crop of artists. Whether it’s anecdotal or not but just seems like there isn’t an authentic buildup of new age artists. They come on the scene quick and subsequently exit at the same speed. We live in a different world of consumption these days and honestly we don’t really have a true indicator on how that will age moving forward. I think this generation is going to become a casualty of artists from previous generations maintaining their dominance and still bubbling to the top of the mainstream
