haaaa i remember the 2 month rockie fresh blog hype off of 'electric highway'

i liked him but was really the death rattle of the blog rap x rostrum days

I thought it was dope Af that Ross signed another “blog era” type artist to a label like MMG but yeah like you said that was very late in the blog era and MMG’s run and you could tell things were changing

do you think ross kinda fumbled the potential of mmg tho? i mean imo he had two of the best rappers alive at one time (meek n gunplay) and obv gunplay had potential life sentence incoming but when that was dropped all the hype of his solo w pharrell n s*** producing was like a distant memory

I don’t think it’s in a place where he can’t still have a respectable roster and get back to a cmg tier label but I just think he comes from an era that was at the end of the 2000’s traditional rap record label thing and with that comes a certain standard for first week sales and making returns off of a budget that just stopped being doable to anyone over there except meek and Ross, maybe Wale. Also Gotti is quicker to come up with a hit than Ross these days which made it easier for an Est Gee or Bagg to fw him.

And finally I’d be surprised if Ross didn’t try to sign someone like Kodak or any of the many great Niggas coming out south Florida last few years but that initial MMG run so solidified and it’s own thing from an era that’s kinda dead and gone to where I see why Kodak took his chances on his own. Kodak or any other artist with that type of potential would have been kinda carrying MMG after those first 2-3 projects lol

However in real time as someone who remembers the beginnings of MMG with pandemonium and self made album cycle and even remembers Ross triple c’s era lol, the day that MMG died from what it was was the day Meek told Wale to jump off a roof and kill himself lol along with the meek drake thing killing off some of meek persona and the illusion of the Miami Khaled Superfriends era. Obviously all parties involved still successful and probably cool now but it just ruined their mojo.

Yeah Ross/MMG needed someone like Nip at that time. Street but can still make bangers and play in the mainstream world. Which is why Ross was gunning for that nigga. Meek was that too but he was caught up in too much bs

I’ve heard it thrown around that he was trying to sign Nip, Dom Kennedy and Wiz Khalifa. If he gets those + Meek that’s the perfect roster and they’re looked at totally different as a label lol.

  • Nov 28, 2022

It’s funny how the era as a whole is (kinda rightfully) hated because of how lowbrow it was in terms of style and albums, but on the other hand it’s responsible for like a million undeniable classic smashes lmao
