Awesome, I've been to Malaysia but not Indonesia. Kuala Lumpur was ok but didn't have the soul and vitality of other Asian cities (Any Asian capital or large city outclasses it I fear). Of course, there are interesting things to do (the Islamic Art Museum was amazing) and cool pockets but they are small and spread out. I'm interested in history so for that reason I liked Malacca although I didn't stay long. I only passed through Johor Bahru so I can't say much, but Singapore I absolutely loved. I like countries that attain wealth without giving up all of their traditional culture and society. After, I returned to KL on my way to George Town, which I quite liked, the food was good but not as outstanding as it's reputation would suggest - everywhere in SEA has amazing food, so I guess it's hard to stand out. Another positive is that I met a lot of cool people there. I flew out of KL, but before that I stopped for a few days in Ipoh - what an amazing place, I did absolutely nothing there! It was one of the least-touristed places I went in Asia, but still bustling, so I literally just walked around trying food and went to the gym. Also, people say this about everywhere, but Ipoh is one of the places I have been where I can say the people were genuinely extremely kind and friendly, even more than you would expect. Southeast Asia at it's best approaches paradise, amazing weather and nature, incredible food, beautiful culture and history, cheap coming from wealthy countries, not a care in the world.

Feel free to ignore my travelogue - what exactly draws you to live/base yourself there?

Ah nice I didn’t spend a lot of time in Malaysia I just passed through Kuala Lumpur for a few days and walked around.

But to answer your question, im looking to settle in an Islamic/Muslim majority county by 2025. I lived in Cairo for a year and loved it but just wanted to rest the waters in Southeast Asia, although I loved Jakarta, I didn’t feel as comfortable and free as I did in Egypt.

Jakarta was extremely humid, both of the airbnbs I had were infested with roaches and the air quality was s***. Also, although the people were extremely kind, I stood out like crazy being African American which I dont mind but in Egypt I kinda blended in.

Lastly, it’s the affordability of some of these countries. I’m saving up money to live for atleast five years, where I can study and be creative..

Egypt is probably gonna be my destination

Yes, I think Southeast Asian weather varies greatly based on wet and dry season, and I was lucky for it not to be oppressive. Jakarta being right on the equator may be worse in that respect. It seems like a good plan and I wish you the best of luck in Egypt (or wherever you end up)!

Negatives: I ended up making a fool of myself after drinking two days in a row/my mom had a heart attack as well as my grandma beinf in the hospital indefinitely

Positives: Shaved my head, started going to the gym, paid off my registration/got my car right, as well as being determined to live a healthier life.

Ipoh is def one of the cooler place/city in Malaysia. You are spot on with most of these and it's a shame bc with Malaysia tourists always slept on its cooler side, the East Malaysia located in Borneo. Better vibes with the people you can feel it in the air. The natural attractions and generally the tourists spots there is better managed. They still lacking in the urban development though and it's only bc Malaysia as government is biased towards West Malaysia
