Gambino's new album is billed and structured as a movie soundtrack. It's not a giant cohesive work, it's just a bunch of random and good music that we didn't even know was dropping until like 2 months ago.

He didn't drop a radio single for the album, he only now dropped the music video a few days ago for the lead single (which came out the same month as the album), and the movie that the soundtrack exists for and revolves around is not out yet.

3.15.20 and Atavista both dropped at weird times and didn't do crazy numbers (the former didn't even have physicals drop at all). The guy has no desire to chart or become a pop icon; he already has the success he wants from the people he wants.

It's not surprising in the slightest that it's not doing great numbers. Nothing about this release (or like half of the releases he's done in the past) is traditional.

Music's not even Glover's main focus (hence him literally ending his career as Gambino after releasing this).

He threw the fans a bone and is gonna go on a huge last tour and then go back to what he enjoys doing more. Why would he care about outselling PND lmfao
