all of the greats of the 2010s are impressive in various ways
nobody could write a hook like drake
nobody could tell a story like kendrick
nobody had more charisma than nicki minaj
nobody could deliver a punchline like j cole
nobody was cooler than asap rocky
nobody could build a world like childish gambino
nobody could turn the club up like future
nobody was more imaginative than young thug
nobody had more energy and color than tyler
nobody sounded bigger and more layered than travisthink about the rappers that are touted as the new superstars. do they actually impress you in any way? do they stand out above their peers? does it feel like they’re creating their own world?
if i ask you about the best rapper bar for bar, you’ll prolly say a really dope underground guy that is unsigned and doesn’t really cater to the masses. in 2011, we didn’t feel like that, and that is why hip hop is suffering. skill and being impressive is a standard that’s only upheld for the little guy.

But usually with that, there's some really exciting new artists with potential to push the genre forward.
I look around now, and it's a pretty barren landscape.
How tf are we gonna make middle aged Drake, Cole and Kendrick carry the torch still? There's no one for them to pass it to.
Who's selling records and bringing bars?
Who's making some real artistic efforts with depth to it even? Maybe a couple no names are making some sparks with rocks right now, but have yet to catch fire.We need a new generation artist to step up in 2024.
